Thanks! Now I'm just waiting on some legit Cliffys to finish it up
I like it, I think that was a good call since the frame on the head was already red. I would probably just change the flipper button to add some contrast.
Finally got around to installing my GameBlades. I moved the Comet next to the Cyclone and the RCT to the "work" area. Going to pick up some Titan rubbers and get that done.

I nagged them into making them right after they came out with Barb Wire blades. All in good fun of course.
I just picked up RCT last week. My first pin and I was super excited. I knew it needed bands and the ramp was cracked but it was playable...man was I wrong. There's a laundry list of things that need to be fixed (solenoids, switches, errors...). I am still stoked to repair it and learn along the way but let down that I have a pin that I can't play. I hope I can figure these things out. Any suggestions for sources where I can learn how to test?

I was absolutely lost on my first pin also. What saved my butt was the fact that I had an original service manual. It has a diagram in it that tells you what each area of the service menu grid means. In other words, go into the machines service menu, go to switch test or whatever. See where the grid is lighting up, then refer to the manual to see what those dots mean. It wont tell you how to fix it of course, but at least it will tell you where the issue is. Usually once you know where the issue is, it's an easy fix. Just a switch or optic or a loose wire. If it didn't come with a manual, you can find it online pretty easy and download it. Or I just bought one from Marcospecialties for $30 bucks or so. Hope that helps
I have a mod to show off!! This wasnt my idea, but the bracket fabrication sure was and I'm pretty darn proud of it The coaster train is just a toy from coasterdynamix.com. I used pre existing bolt holes on the machine and a piece of 1/2" aluminum from lowes. Used the existing screws that came with the toy to attach to the bracket. I hope the pictures help anyone who has been thinking of doing something like this.

Thank you for the lead. I downloaded the manual and took a look at the underside, I can follow the manual to make out what’s what but I noticed that someone had done work on it already. There’s an alligator clip completing one connection which is odd because I would figure it’s an easy solder.
I also noticed the solenoid for the Chicago loop was disconnected...so I connect it. Bad idea. Now it’s stuck in a loop “here’s your ball back, hit a target” over and over again, even after I disconnected it again.
With all this I’m still excited to work on it. I hope I don’t fry the board.

My Ripleys machine had a similar issue if I'm understanding you correctly. You couldn't lose a ball under certain circumstances. The machine would just keep auto launching them when you lost one. The only way to get it to stop would be to turn off the machine. Turns out it was a bad optic board in the ball trough. The game thought there was a ball there when there wasnt sometimes. Replaced the optic pair and bingo, good to go. Optics are a common failure and cheap to replace. However, I have no idea why a solenoid to the Chicago loop would affect that, unless you maybe bumped or disturbed the optic control board underneath when tinkering?
Quoted from J_Striker:dude, is that the same game??? looking amazing
Yes indeed! It's coming along nicely
Anybody have a post here between the light and right adjuster post? Bought a typical router, it has hole there but no post. Also when is the flying ghost supposed to swing down? Thanks! I know its dirty as f*ck but just starting.
1533011686762766813640 (resized).jpg15330117338342099400052 (resized).jpgI can check for that post on my machine this evening. As far as the ghost, mine drops down when I hit the lit ghost target to the right of the ramp. And where did you find cliffys? Mine have been on back order for about 6 weeks!

Check the switch behind the ghost flap. If the yellow ghost switch is working, chances are it's that switch. Happened to mine, doesn't know the door is up.

No hole or post in that location on my machine either.
Hello all owners,
I would like to know if a new CPU/sound board 520-5300 will work correctly in an RCT.
Did some of you try it and if not working completely, what doesn't work ?
I am asking this because i would like to buy a spare board that can be used as well in a LOTR as in the RCT.
On some sites, they say that the 520-5300 can be used in a RCT, but on another site (ksarcade.net) they say :
Please Note: There are four (confirmed) games that the Atmel Chipset does not support completely: South Park, *Starship Troopers, Space Jam and Roller Coaster Tycoon. The cpu will run the game software but some of the sounds will not be correct or play at all. These four games will require the BSMT2000 sound chipset 520-5136-00 cpu which is obsolete and very rare.
*Starship Troopers: it has been reported that Starship Troopers is least affected. The 520-5300 will run the game with some sounds missing but it's not noticeable during game play.
Tks

I just finished shopping my RCT yesterday. That spot on mine is not drilled.

This is way out of my area of knowledge, but I could take a look at my chip sets for any markings if that would help. Mine are most likely original sets though

Before and after pics!!

Welcome to the club, sounds like one I used to play at a ski area. When I saw a clean one at Pinfest I couldn't believe it was the same game. Yup, before and after pics would be great, thanks.
A quick question for everyone. Our machines were produced in 2002. I also have two other stern machines produced in 2003, and 2004. The sound quality on the two newer sterns is vastly better than on RCT. Comparatively, RCT sounds "tinny" or cheap. Theres a noticeable lack of any bass. Do your RCT machines have any low end to the sound? Maybe I have a blown speaker under the cabinet? Or is this just how the game sounds? I have swapped the sound rom for the latest version and it made no difference.
Mine sounds better than my Comet and Cyclone. Hard to compare it to games I play in arcades with all the other noise going on. But I wouldn't say it sounds tinny in any way.

Do you get any low end bass at all? I dont. My Rbion, and tspp both have some bass going on.

Funny you asked that. Just yesterday I was thinking there was enough bass at one point it felt a little like a mini shaker motor. I forget exactly when, but I'll play again when I get home today and listen better.

Thanks! Definitely let me know
I played around with the background music setting. I had it on 1 and it sounds real good, lots of bass. Turned it up to 8, sounded like crap, turned it up to 15 and basically get no background music. Maybe give that a shot.

I'll give it a try. Thanks!
May be if you reduce the value of R110 and R106, this will also give abetter sound, at least it will reduce the noise.
thinking about joining club. price range for very nice with leds? seem to range from 28 to 35 ?
still torn based on negative reviews and the troll. but game looks fun.

Replace the troll with a Fisher Price little person and the game immediately become 10x better.

I paid 25 for mine and it's in crazy nice shape. Playfield was perfect. No LEDs in it though. There are a few pices of plastic that are commonly broken and near impossible to find. But they're just cosmetic and don't affect gameplay. It is a very basic game rule wise. Easy to learn, and family friendly. It's not a top 50 game by any means, but it's FAR FAR better than the #224 ranking it gets here. I look at some of the games ranked higher and just shake my head In disbelief.
Quoted from CoolCatPinball:but it's FAR FAR better than the #211 ranking it gets here.
Far far better? I’m not sure about that. I’ve owned it for a few years, and it’s been fun. But it won’t be what I consider to be long term (more than 5 years). It’s been fun, but it’s not a “keeper”. I’ll probably end up moving it on next year at Pintastic. Though the biggest cause of that is space. I need to keep rotating a few games or things get stagnant in the collection.
Quoted from billsfanmd:still torn based on negative reviews and the troll. but game looks fun.
Ignore the negative reviews and play it. It’s a fun game. And surprisingly, the troll goes from annoying to funny very quickly. I do still laugh at the start of multiball as the troll drops down and starts jumping as he screams “MULTIBALL!” The super jackpot is still fun too.
Quoted from HOOKED:Anyone have a right ramp nos?
mod? Me if you do
Apparently ramps/plastics for this game are a royal pain in the behind to locate.
Quoted from CoolCatPinball:Apparently ramps/plastics for this game are a royal pain in the behind to locate.
Quoted from Pinballlew:Your right, I have been looking for a right ramp forever!
I just gave up on finding a left ramp, and made a repair to my existing one. The right ramp had a few cracks where the ball was smacking it at the base of the ramp. I installed a set of cliffys, boom, cracks hidden and ramp reinforced.
Hey fellow owners
Can somebody help me with some specific detailed pictures of the playfield? I have shopped my machine, and cant seem to find out where everything fits
Write me here or on my email [email protected]
Hope someone can help me
