Both are solid but not stellar movies, with my vote going to Rogue One. They were clearly made in an attempt to recapture the magic of Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back, yet they seem lesser than those classics.

I agree with others that the opening of Rogue One was too confusing. It really came out on top because of Vader's bad assery and everyone sacrificing themselves. Dialing back vintage characters was cool too.

I'd like to see the next release in the franchise drop the safe re-do ties and break new ground.
