Looking for advice for an inexpensive (hopefully <$60) rock tumbler/tumbler for pinballs and small metal pinball parts. Other than pinballs and small metal parts is there anything else pinball related you can tumble anyway? Also, is anything special recommended to use in the tumbler for pinballs?

Just do the whole machine at once.

This is the one you want:

Works great on all non-pourous metals. I'm sure you can search a bit and find one for under $60.

Also, use ground walnut shells as your media. I have found that the "desert" blend, which is a finer grind, actually cuts down the polishing time a bit. In addition, you can add some Flitz media additive but I would save some money and just use some Mothers metal polish. I've found it actually works better than Flitz and is about half the price.

I wouldn't use a rock tumbler for anything other than rocks.

I have the one from Cabelas, its worked well so far.. Flitz or Novus and Ground Walnut are the way to go, IMO.

This is the one that I have and use, and I highly recommend it based on price to performance value.

me too.... i use the desert blend and flitz in it...

if it fits*, it goes in... plastic posts, metal stuff, bakelite, basically anything... i recently tumbled some targets, and they came out real good...

    * except stuff with ink printing on it..

    ps... welcome back from "vacation"...

tumbled targets and other stuff, other than the frame and big bakelite piece, it all went in... i need a lloyd sized tumbler...

This blows away Flitz. Cheaper price and almost twice the size bottle.

cheaper and twice the size, you have my attention...

    safe for plastic?

    #12 10 years ago

That I don't know. I'd never tried tumbling plastics. I have gotten it on rubber hoses and plastics when using it on my car and it was fine. Actually, anything designed to be used that close to the rubber on the tires would have to be safe for plastics I would assume.
