Quoted from Gogojohnnyquack:

Regarding the VUK - Is there a spring directly below the ball holder that helps hold it up off of the switch until a ball weights it down, or does the fork of the switch provide the only support? The assembly diagram doesn't show a spring in this position. I took mine apart, cleaned it, and reassembled but it doesn't spring up like I would expect. I admit that I didn't thoroughly inspect and test it before disassembling.

No spring (This is a photo from my rebuild, I’ve since installed Cliffy’s to cover the wear):

Normal. Gives you a couple of ticks to hit the flipper. Contrary to many beliefs system 11 is not a real time system. It's a close enough system so there's some leeway in all things that depend on timing.

Quoted from PlanetExpress:

What you describe is correct function, magnet catches and holds the ball, if you don’t flip it releases it.

I am a little surprised. I can get a good one potato two potato after the "FLIP" before the magnet release. I thought it would be pretty quick after the work Flip.

Just bought a Rollergames after being a long-time fan of the show and been sort of looking out for a Rollergames pin for a while so I guess I can join the club now. Eagerly awaiting it to be delivered, the first non-Gottlieb game I've bought in a long time so looking forward to getting it in here

IIRC you can flip at any time when the ball is held by the magnet. I believe the act of flipping cancels the magnet - or is sufficiently powerful to overcome it. You don't have to wait for the ball to be released before flipping.
Unless I am misunderstanding your point.

He was having issues hitting the ramp. So I didn't know if it was flipper power or the magnet was holding the ball too long.

It now sound that the flipper is loosing power. So I will re-solder to see it that resolves the issue.

Yes, it can be a pig to get the ramp shot dialled in
Although the flipper resting position and magnet height are really the only variables.

Added some blacklight (uv) to my rollergames. What can I say......looks absolutely amazing

Just back from the NW Pinball and Arcade Show. Yes that was my high score (YYZ) on the showroom floor RG; I think I hit 4 jackpots during one multiball - UNBELIEVABLE!.

This game had the non-female voice music. I noticed the team name callouts were different too. I want to get this soundtrack for my game.

On IPDB I see two prototype options. I understand you need matching CPU ROM version to properly match the sound ROMS.

Can anyone suggest which if these two is the better option, i.e., less bugs, fixed issues, and main sound-track without the rock-rock-rock'n'rollergames voice? I have L-2 now so don't want to forfeit too many features.

Complete Romset (European Prototype 1)
Complete Romset (Prototype US ROMS, CPU + Sound PA1, Speech PA2)

That was my game, glad you enjoyed it! Now you've given me something to shoot for at home... I just finished a complete teardown and cleaning prior to the show and I believe that the game made it through the event without issue. Phew! During show setup, DumbAss pointed out that the flippers weren't properly snappy and powerful because I had rebuilt them with a more modern linkage with wider shoulders than the original. The wider shoulders on the linkage were preventing full travel with the conical springs. I replaced them with the original style narrow-shoulder linkage and that made them snappy.

Correct linkage: Screen Shot 2022-06-06 at 11.07.40 PM (resized).png

Cool info and cool to meet another local owner. Your RG was shiny clean!

I'll have to check my plungers, makes sense the wider link would interfere with the old style springs.

I have several flippers that aren't all they should be....maybe that's a factor. Especially the ramp shot on my RG...even with the deep freeze on, can only hit it less than 50% of the time. Looking at the service info, I may need to raise my magnet post. Noticed yours was indeed above the PF level (book says should be 1/32" above) and never had a problem hitting your ramp.

Back to the sounds, can you check your ROM levels for me? Look at the stickers on all the ROMS as well as what is reported at boot up. Have you changed the ROMS or is it how you got it? I never heard one like yours before.

Same and thanks! I have not changed the ROMS. I do know that this is an early production one with a Diamond Plate playfield, chrome wireforms, and the extra flashers. I'm out of town until the weekend and will check the ROM versions then... I have a ROM reader/burner and can send you the files if needed.

I saw you entering your initials as I walked past. Impressive score indeed. Not wanting to sound like a snob but that Rollergames could play even better than it does. Conical (compression) return springs just plainly interfere with the snap back. Switch to external WPC style (extension) return springs and your flippers will not feel the same and you'll wish you'd done it sooner. I have a Rollergames that does not go to the show because the cabinet was well restored (I bought it that way) but if either of you want to see or play it you are welcome to do so.

Rebuild your flippers. Switch to the WPC style extension return spring. The upper right flipper is a special flipper plunger but a standard one works just fine. There should be enough power on the flipper to be able to get the ball to go past ALL the diverters and drop back down onto the playfield as this is what is supposed to happen during Sudden Death.

Mine is also a DP and came with music/speech the same as what was experienced at the show. I actually switched mine to the production (with both the male and female "don't flip" speech). I pulled my CPU board a while ago (testing for my board) and the game ROMs are LA2. I remember the music/speech ROMs were labeled PA2. I cannot remember what ROMs I wrote and installed in the machine. To be sure I would have to pull them, read them and get the checksum to be sure. I wrote all new ROMs so I still have the original image if need be. I read somewhere in the past that the European version doesn't have the "rock, rock, rock-in roller games" that you hear (and remember). Douglas Cooper Getschal strikes again!

#1163 9 months ago

Thanks for the info. Just checked mine and the ROMS are LA2 (CPU) and SL3 (sound).

Of the images listed on ipdb, it's more likely the "european" one I want, although some posts I read simply said the "prototype" games had the different music.

I've heard the story about the big european distributor not liking the US soundtrack, but I didn't know (until now) they actually did a separate soundtrack for Europe.

I'll wait for Gogojohnnyquack to return and see what his ROMs are labelled. That'll hopefully help decipher it.

Worst case I can get PinMAME and try out the various ROMs

#1164 9 months ago

Is this the music you are talking about? I’d be in for a romset if someone could make them.

Yes @orangegsk that must be the music....was hard to hear at the show other than it was "different" than what I'm used to.

This is one of several acknowledgements this different sound/music exists, but still trying to ascertain exactally which IPDB romset will provide this. I assume the one labelled "european" is right.

I put the European roms in my game over the weekend. I downloaded them from IPDB.

Hi RG crew -
Has anyone purchased the CPR mirrored backglass for this game - any feedback/thoughts?

Yup, picked it up during the Black Friday sale… Very well done, just a bit of mirroring to make it look different, but not glaringly different from the translite. Also picked up the CPR topper… not epic, but for $80 it isn’t bad.

With the game off you can see the difference from the RBION next to it (hard to capture a mirror in a photo):

With the game on, the colors are deeper and richer than what the translite provided:

How hard is it to source a new speaker grill plastic with the advertisement and Williams letters?

very! None made stateside. Gotta find it used or a company in Germany makes them but doesn’t ship to the US.

Do you mean the speaker panel (not the grilles themselves) ?
If so, I have a new, unused one bought from PinballCenter for sale and will ship to the US.
I also have a new translite from the same place I don't need.

I have replaced my original plastics with a new CPR kit and it came with the flags that go above the pit. My game never came with these so I'm pretty happy that the kit included them. My question is, can anyone measure their black plastic spacer posts that bring the flags together so I can order them? (area circled in yellow highlighter for reference). Thanks.

Hi, i am a recent owner of this wonderful game and this issue just popped up: Multi ball drop targets are dropping when hit, but not lighting the icons in front of the targets, when all 3 are down they stay down and the lock arrow does not light. The lock will still light if it comes up in roller motion, this just started happening. hoping to look at it after work, appreciate any info as to where I should start. Thanks!

Take a look at the opto board. Those 3 drop target use optical switches. I would first check the connector. A simple loose connection can prevent the switches from working.

Anyone know where to get a replacement magnet rod for the deep freeze?

I took mine to a metal workshop and they flattened it out for me. I've taken sever pieces to them over the years and they refuse to take my money for their help!

My Rollergames started having an issue this morning where the W in "WAR" would not light or make any sound after knocking the target down, A and R would light and the lock would turn on, but not always right away. I had a similar issue with all 3 targets at 1 point and turned out to be a loose molex on the opto board. I figured I would start there so I removed connector and put backfirmly into place(it did not seem loose). Started up and now not only does the letter not light but knocking down all 3 targets does not trigger the lock. I started by cleaning the u opto with a tiny bit of alcohol on a qtip, no help. reading for all 3 letters on the test nodes of the board is the same at 10.1, in switch test mode the W target does not register. all of the switches in the same row/column are functioning fine. also switch does not appear as an error on start up, any and all help and advice appreciated, my wife's favorite machine down, so pressure is on

When optos are involved I always suspect the optos, particularly the transmitter one. If you have a digital camera or phone camera without an IR filter you may be able to see whether the transmitter LED is lit up. My late generation iPhone won't do it buy my buddy's Android does. You could also check for proper voltage at that opto.

Thanks, I ended up taking a popsicle stick and slightly tweaking the opto which made it engage for a bit, I'm going to reflow the soder on that opto, but the opto itself does seem to function fine just think there is a flaky joint, that board gets beat to hell with the jet bumper on the other side of it
