I bought this from a fellow pinsider about 4 years ago.
Everything worked. Cabinet had a lot of flaking and fading. Playfield had some touch ups done at some point. The backbox lock didn’t work so I used a couple clamps to keep the display from swinging open.

Even though all the boards worked, I still shipped them out to Clive at the Coin Op Cauldron for any needed tuneups. A few dried out capacitors needed to be replaced, and he got rid of the old battery pack.

The Mylar came off with a heat gun. Freeze spray wouldn’t budge it at all - I guess it’s something with these 80B playfields. I’ve used freeze spray on other playfields and it worked great.

So, here is what I was left with after removing the glue residue.

Luckily I live somewhat close to someone who possesses the skills to fix this. So, I drove it out to Keith Holbrook and patiently waited while he worked his magic.

For the cabinet I went with decals from pinballdecals.eu

The coin door and Apron I had powder coated.
I remade the apron decals with a Cameo.

As I was working on the topside I happened to come across the reactive post light LEDs from Stumblor pinball. Since the main objective of this game is destroying the pop up target bases, I thought it would be cool to have reactive post lights behind the targets.
I became so committed to this idea I was willing to drill holes in my new clear coated playfield!
Of course there is a Vids guide on how to do this, which I followed, and luckily didn’t have any issues.

This thing looks great! I love Robo war, it’s one of my favorite gottliebs.

The control board for the post lights mounts underneath the playfield.
This is a really cool mod as you can monitor any switch you want to initiate the lights. Through an App you can change the colors and spin patterns.
They ship from England but arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The board works perfectly and all the solder joints look professional. I admire a good solder job as I’ve built Stomp Boxes( guitar effects pedals) for several years for my son, and soldering on tiny boards isn’t easy. They arrived professionally packaged as well. I make a point to note this as I’ve bought pinball mods in the past that arrived in a used ziplock sandwich bag!

Inside of the cabinet looks a lot better when compared to this pre restoration picture.
Not sure what the former owner, who may or may not have been Herbertbsharp, was doing inside this cabinet

I sent close to $200 on a reproduction plastic set, so I made plastic protectors out of PETG .060 . I traced the old plastics with a sharpie and cut them out with my small scroll saw.
Not perfect but better than nothing.

New cabinet and backbox speakers. Just changing out the original ones makes a huge difference. I’m not trying to make the sound register on a Seismometer or anything, so this is as far as I’m going to go on sound upgrades.

    Beauty!
As previously stated, you do nice work as does Keith.
    Mine next?

Thanks, I just take things apart, clean them, and reassemble.
Keith is truly an artist. It’s amazing what he can do with a trashed playfield.
