Powers up, just not sure what needs to get up and running. Could be a very cheap fix. Not a techie here Very rare to find one. In "players" condition. Will add pics later. Will not ship and pickup near Erie, PA. $800 cash.

#2 9 years ago

Great game, this will go quick.

#3 9 years ago

Fun game, but what do you mean by powers up, just not sure...?

#4 9 years ago

It turns on, just no score display or flippers, coils. The cpu has the red light on, which is good. If I have it looked at/repaired then the price will go up. Just don't have the gumption right now .

#5 9 years ago

OK, well GLWS, but that could be a myriad of issues. You will likely have a better shot of selling if you figure out and fix the issues first. Many will likely be scared off of it in current condition, esp since 80B can be a PITA to work on.

Were you interested? Were you going to take a drive?

nope, I have 1 non-working Robowar already, don't need a second.

If it was working I would have been interested.

#8 9 years ago

In a marginally related post, I'd just like to state that I acquired a non-working Robo-War in May and look forward to getting it working early in the new year. Never played one and it looks really cool. It's my first System 80 though.. *GULP*

RoboWar is an excellent game, truly excellent.
Found mine locally on CL dirt cheap, and I consider it a keeper game.

You must jack up the back legs so the ramp shot is not too easy, but otherwise it is my favorite Gottlieb-great sound, fast play, excellent multiball. Terrific compliment to TX which I cannot seem to acquire, but someday.

I acquired mine recently and I love it, also would like a tx sector.
I think 800 is a great price considering these never come up, as far as repairing there's plenty of parts available.

Thank you!

Agreed. Free bump.

#13 9 years ago

Bump!
I just got done playing Robowar and Tx and saw this post. Both games I consider some of Gottliebs best!
I'm lucky to have nice examples of each.
For me gameplay goes to Robowar.
Whoever buys this game will not regret it,its a blast.

? .............didn't work?

#16 9 years ago

remove the [img] tags and the links should be clickable then. Or you need to download the photos and attach them to your post.

Chris

#17 9 years ago

I removed the tags. I did load the photos before, but anyways............

#19 9 years ago

from the limited photos that looks to be in pretty good shape.

If the new owner wants to trade some scans of plastics I think we can help each other out? I have a few that are intact which appear to be broken on your game and vice-verse.

#20 9 years ago

Post a pic of the area around the battery on the MPU?
Everything else is quite easily fixed.
Fear not the System 80!

sorry to derail.

Chris, do you have any scans or ability to provide a few for a fellow robowar lover (could also help out the new owner of this game)? I need the right sling and the one directly over the 2 bank drop.

Sale pending.............

Smart buyer!
Whomever they are, they will not be sorry.

Now only if there was an 800.00 tx sector, or any tx sector.

yeah, I was going to say that the new owner will now be ISO a tx and excalibur in no time

If there is, find me one too.

My eternal quest if for a TX Sector with the Vitagraph playfield.
Looks far better in pictures.

They are out there, but are few and far between.

#27 9 years ago

I paid up for robowar and got what I paid for, and I would pay up for a tx sector.

#29 9 years ago

Hey guys, I bought the RoboWar. It's one of those machines I've been trying to get for about 7 years, and things just worked out this time! LabGuy was cool and the machine was just as presented. Just so you know it's acid damage that is keeping it from booting. The lower corner of the cpu board looks a little frosty, and the connector is growing moss too. I've never messed with system 80, but have rebuilt several acid damaged bally mpu boards. I can't wait to get this thing running. Good luck to everyone else on their quests!

Whysnow I can help you with those scans. I assume I can go to a copy store to do it? I don't see any broken plastics on this one, but I had just driven 4 hours when I picked it up, so...

#30 9 years ago

Congrats on a great and fun game!

I just got mine 90% working yesterday (battleship and backboard lights not working when in multiball like they are supposed to).

Thanks for the offer to help with the scans of the 2 plastics I need!

I am not sure of the best tips from proper scanning to remake plastics but I was planning on using this as a guide

Maybe others will have some suggestions for how they do it?

Uh oh. Once it's gotten down to the edge connectors, if those can't be sanded to copper, I consider the board toast. But, I wish you luck with abating the alkaline damage. RoboWar is a really fun game.

Chris, which replacemnt board would you suggest?

#33 9 years ago

It looks like the board will be ok. I need some of the pins used on the double edge connector. It looks like Great Plains is not getting any more of them. Anyone know a source and part number?

#34 9 years ago
Quoted from Whysnow:

Chris, which replacemnt board would you suggest?

There aren't many options. Steve Young is out of all versions.
NiWumpf is making a board, but I'm not sure how far along Ace is with some 80B titles.
Rottendog doesn't support the 80B titles at all, and won't until (if) Jim releases a new board.
There is a fellow on eBay selling a universal 80/80A/80B board on eBay (at least) that looks interesting...
ebay.com link: Gottlieb System 80 80A 80B MPU NEW

Pascal Janin's PI-80 doesn't (yet) support 80B games.
...and then there is an original used board, which I'd prefer above all.
If not that, then the fellow on eBay has the most attractive 80B solution.

If someone has a failed board, that isn't alkaline ravished, I can fix it cost effectively.

Looks interesting, but I don't have any info on it other than the thread you quoted. Cost shipped would be about $260, so not cheap.

Never mind, I see Big Daddy has them. The holidays are going to mess up getting my parts. This place is fixin' to be 2 weeks from everywhere.

Just to help track prices on this game: The playfield has mylar in the center and is in great shape. It has a little wear spot near the pop bumpers, but otherwise just dirt. The mylar looks like it has lost adhesion on the large inserts and they look slightly blurry--like they are a sticky. Some of the little drone ship inserts have cupped a bit, but not so bad. I have seen many old games with worse cupping. I didn't see any cracked plastics. I'm missing the wire ball switch on the metal habitrail. Translight is faded.

The head has had some water drip on it and expanded a couple places on the top. The head is still solid, and so is the cabinet. The locks were drilled. I may need to see a picture of the head locking mechanism, because something is cracked off on mine.

The corrosion on the mpu board isn't that bad. I've seen plenty of Ballys with worse. All the edge connectors on the board will clean up to bare copper. I will treat and rebuild it when I get my parts. The acid destroyed a lot of pins on the lower connectors. They just broke in half. I have probably repinned about 1000 connectors by now, so it should be good. As long as high power hasn't jumped pins from corrosion and destroyed 5v components, it should try to fire up soon. Can that happen on these games?

I think $800 was a good price because the machine has a solid foundation. You gotta get these rare ones when you can!

#38 9 years ago

I just bought an 80B a few weeks ago from johan6685 off of ebay that Chris linked.
Super clean board, great price, works perfect in my Tx Sector.

#39 9 years ago

Whysnow I see now that the same plastics are cracked on mine. Right slingshot and II drop target bank. They look easy to photoshop with some scans. If I do it I'll send the scans to you.

#40 9 years ago

Did you Robo War up and running?? If you need help, I have one here in the Cleveland area you can take a look at if it helps. Great game by the way!
