Quoted from pumba:

I havent had a chance yet to check my guides yet as rd suggested but I did contact spooky & was told to tape it but it didnt last long, heat shrink would be better but would need to cut the wires then resolder in a tight spot & get heat in there for the shrinks, not something I would take on myself. Contacted another person who sort of specialises in this sort of thing, he told me he had heard of this & recommended to try raising the upf & to look at installing "oil boards"? same as used in twighlight zone. Do you think the ball contacts the switch by just rolling through the tunnel or is something launching the ball up into it? Looking back through these posts it has been mentioned twice but couldnt find any follow up posts on how they dealt with it.

pumba - Here is my fix sans the heat shrink - I forgot to take a photo once i got it done. So I took a post like the one in the photo and cut it with my table saw to be same height as the switch (with the top of the screw factored in) drilled a small start-hole right in front of switch, put the rubber on and screwed it down. Then I took some adhesive putty and put a decent sized ball on the middle contact just as a back-up to the homemade switch guard. I did this because I was out of heat shrink and i had these supplies.

Has anyone replaced the super loud fan on the main (big) Meanwell PSU in the bottom of the cabinet?

If so, what size is it?

Yes I replaced mine. It's a 60x60x25mm, I replaced it with a Vantec SF6025L 60mm Stealth Case Fan which is much quieter, there are some posts in this thread with more info if needed.

Thanks. Might have a 60x60x25mm left from adding some fans to my WOZ.

Thanks for that I will look at making a guard as well as checking the guides, the person I enquired about a guard from supplied a diagram of a simple to make guard but was concerned that it might result in the ball getting caught on it (not enough room), wont get a chance to look at it for another week to check the clearance between the main pf & bottom of the switch but I assume your guard doesnt interfere with the ball travel so maybe the damage happens only if the ball is airbourne. So if theres enough room to place a cover on there & still allow the ball to freely roll through then if the ball is launched up towards it it would bounce off the guard & not contact the switch, I think. First thing though I will try & get a picture of my guides & send to spooky for their advice

Does anybody have pics of their LED OCD installed in a Rob Zombie? Herg has a great deal going on now @ $39 for a Spooky board. Wanted to see if anybody customized the settings or just use it with out of the box settings and where they installed it.

Out of the box looked good, so didn't change anything. Can take a photo tomorrow.

I’m still confused as to what lcd ocd actually does. Can either of you explain?

Quoted from Fortytwo:

LED OCD, it smooths the slight LED flickering to act more smoothly like incandescent lamps. Some people don't even notice or care about this flicker, so the "OCD" in the product name is fitting

I have OCD in RZ and every W/B game I own. Frankly, I've never customized the settings, I think they look great out of the box.

Bunches of games with my home-made switch protector and no issues!

Correct you are, I did not change the settings at all and the LED OCD looks amazing right out of the box. My only problem now is that I get some significant interference through the speakers depending on how many inserts are lit up. I'm going to review the speaker wiring to make sure it is isolated from power and lamp matrix wires, might need to re-run it but I have not looked yet.

Hey guys,

can anybody help me with the following (minor I know) problems?

Attract sound: Changes will not be saved

I have this disgusting door sound during attract mode all the fucking time and I‘m unable to turn it off as unfortunately the attract sound „off“ setting will not be saved obviously. Don’t know where the problem is. Can’t be a battery problem as the high scores stay?!? Very strange. I change from on to off and leave the menu...when I close the door the attract sound is there again and when I open the door and enter the menu attract sound is „on“ again

Ball save is on/animation is there but game ends and ball save is not working

My machine never did that before but does it now all the time. Any ideas? This odd behavior started in the middle of a game and stayed for all further games

Target „1“ not working

We literally tried everything (bend it a little etc.) and though it works in test mode when you test with your fingers it won’t register during the game.

Last question: How did you set the Music vs the Speech Volume or whatever those two are called in the menu? On my machine I was not able to find the right mix

Thanks a lot any help is very appreciated

Lars (loves pinball but has not a single clue when it comes to technical stuff )

3 questions:
1) what triggers the left orbit to get to the modes/upper playfield? I haven't identified specifically how this is qualified as it seems as the game progresses, Rob will say "Shoot the left orbit!"

2) what is the best way to hit the left orbit? I can't seem to hit it consistently with the right flipper and I can't seem to hit it with the left flipper so I'm wondering if some skilled players can give me some tips on hitting these orbits easier (which of course would be beneficial for any pinball game of course!)

3) has anyone installed Modfathers side art blades (cemetery look)... I'm considering purchasing but would like to see what they look like installed.

The left orbit by default (at the start of a game or when not in another mode) will start a mode if you hit it hard enough to get to the VUK. I forget what it's for when Rob says "shoot the left orbit" but that is either for a mode completion or collection. I'm sure someone will chime in with a better memory than me.

#10175 5 years ago

You were probably in the hurry up lightning by hitting the two blue targets on the right side of the playfield. By shooting left orbit you will collect the value.

#10176 5 years ago
Quoted from DrMark12PA:

1) what triggers the left orbit to get to the modes/upper playfield?

Left orbit is always lit to start a mode, whenever you are not in a mode or in a multiball.

As far as hitting it - don’t think you can backhand that shot.

Just practice practice practice. It’s a tight shot - but it’s the key to the game.

Take of the glass, and cradle the ball on the right flipper. Try and shoot the orbit. If you miss, catch the ball with your hand and try again. Repeat 100x. That should improve things.

#10177 5 years ago

You can also try different flipper rubber for a different feel, this may or may not help you but worth a shot. The game comes from the factory with PerfectPlay silicone flipper rubbers. You could try traditional rubber, urethane, etc. for a different feel.

Having a hard time copy/pasting everything on the phone, but I now have all of my Rob Zombie mods for sale until Sunday night. Any purchase also includes a FREE ball stop mod if you don't have one already

Cool add, I’d say 100% of the 300 pins made need this. Guessing you’ve sold 50 ball stops???

I agree, and I've actually given many away for free with orders (especially when I was a day later on shipping than quoted). Must be in at least 50 machines for sure.

Quoted from cavalier88z24:

If I were at my computer (I'm away for the holiday), I'd post links to everything I offer for RZ, but the store link near my screen name should help you find them if you're interested.

As for the ball stop, factory RZ machines have a slight flaw in that they are missing a ball stop that is present on most other pinball machines. This leads to an issue where the ball can occasionally fall into the cabinet. I had this happen to me day 1, but it was Jeff that suggested I design a simple solution to the problem. My ball stop installs cleanly with no permanent modification.

Below is a photo that shows the Mausoleum, Gas Station, and Spine mods that I offer. All currently have some degree of a sale for this weekend and shipping automatically combines in the Pinside shop.

I noted it in the Mausoleum thread, but others here may find it interesting to know that the Mausoleum is now in over 20% of all RZ machines, and the other mods also did quite well. I'm very proud and thankful to Pinsiders for that (and still can't believe Charlie himself was the first to get on board [can't wait to get my ACNC!]).

Is there a proper procedure to raising the pf, I open the coin door & lift it from underneath OK but its not smooth rolling on the tracks as it seems to hit a lip. Does the pf have something to stop against or does it rest on the headboard. thanks

The lip is common with most all modern games, you have to push past it with some force to fully raise the pf. It rests on the head in the full upright position.

#10186 5 years ago

thanks for verifying its normal asI read on the tna site that a couple of people have had there machines pf drop into the cabinet which is a bit concerning, something about the stoppers at the end. Got a chance now to look at putting a guard around switch 23 been 3 months collecting dust

#10187 5 years ago
Quoted from SpookyCharlie:

Guys... we're doing all we can to get caught up on the system switch for ACNC that put us behind and cost us several months of work.
WE WILL fix the remaining items in Rob Zombie (and our other games) as time allows. I'm hoping before years end.
Only so many hours in the day and so much we can work on at once. I am to blame for dumping a ton of work on Fawzma all at once. We have more help now, but still going to take time.
Sorry... doing our best.

Will there be a Christmas miracle of 2018? Last communication from Charlie was three months ago. Was hoping to have hours devoted to polishing off RZ code. What have manufacturers been doing to finish the code on games they’ve already released?

JJP has released v3.0 for TH and the game is done but for bug squashing, and it is a work of art. DI was updated past v4.6. JJPOTC looks about done, final enhancements outstanding. Great job JJP.

Stern has released updates for BM66 v1.0, AC/DC, MET, Maiden, AS, Kiss and DP with all games probably complete. Great job Stern.

American Pinball has released update to Houdini and it is complete but for potential enhancements. This game is addictive playing it feels like a classic. Great job AP.

CGC released complete MB code and recreated and colored the dots 100%. Great job CGC.

Spooky has delivered a complete TNA experience and owes RZ owners an update to fix code, squish bugs and add polish. Almost three weeks left in the year. Good job Spooky.

#10188 5 years ago

The last few times Charlie has posted in this thread, it's been the same ambiguous "it's coming, but we're busy, and don't know when".

Charlie, I think we've all been patient awaiting the next release. We understand you're a small company with limited resources and you're chasing the next sale. But as a competent resource manager you should be able to give us a solid time line as to when the code will be released. No more ambiguous promises, please. Give us a date, end the speculation, and we can all shut up until that time comes.

#10189 5 years ago

I have a feeling RZ owners will be waiting a long time.

#10190 5 years ago

Doubt it'll happen before Q2 2019, and I'd rather it didn't.

Fawzma obviously still has his work cut out for him on ACNC. If he has to pause that, then this will get half assed and then probably abandoned. I'd rather it got the attention it deserved on both game and system code sides.

We all wish Spooky had more manpower in the coding department, but they just don't.

#10191 5 years ago

Took out Cornholio and added her... I like her better

When it comes to hiring creative talent (like more programmers) Spooky has a location problem.

Nobody wants to move to Benton. It's 3 bars and a gas station. If you're a single dude enjoy the sausage fest. If you're married your wife will be bored out of her mind and have very limited employment options.

We've suggested numerous times setting up a "creative shop" in either of the desirable cities myself and Van Es live in so we could supervise but that fell upon deaf ears.

#10193 5 years ago

Bein WI is not the tech hub of the world, would shipping a game to a programmer for development be out of the question? Or is that too costly?

How did they do it with fawzma? It wouldn't surprise me if they already do just that. What would be better is if they could outsource the code to an owner who also codes, but there might be a lot of red tape for that.

#10195 5 years ago
Quoted from dung:

he lives locally. It is not as remote as some might make it seem. It is about 20 minute to dubuque and about an hour to madison. I know for people from large cities that seems way too far, but for some of the rest of us, that is normal. I live about 25 miles from my office and it take me less time to get to work than my brother who lives about 15 miles from his office (in chicago).

#10196 5 years ago

Yeah, but for programmers you're typically competing with tech or games industry jobs, offering more pay & benefits, and usually in or near a major city with a major airport. At worst, a more minor but hipsterish city (possibly like Madison).

There's a really good reason why JJP have all their software guys, and actually both designers, in an office in Chicago rather than Nowheresville NJ.
