I’m running V22 and don’t have the 2 ball issue. Maybe try turning up your shooter coil strength I believe was a suggested fix. Maybe your shooter isn’t getting the ball into the lane quick enough thus prompting another ball to be loaded.

Man medisinyl you are killing it with RZ mods! I will be excited to see what you come up with in the callout department. I also just read an article today that “3 from hell” finished shooting so hopefully we will get more awesomeness in the callout department that could be added later.

Quoted from jeffspinballpalace:

First things first - learn your switches. I'd suggest going into switch menu and seeing which are active. Upon bootup, you should see the first 6 switches in column 1 (column 0 is far right) for the balls in trough and one other open switch for the coin door. When you start a game, one of the ball trough switches comes off leaving 5 lit, and the shooter lane switch becomes open. If any other switches are stuck open, they should be adjusted. Stuck switches can cause a new RZ owner to develop a headache diagnosing an issue, until they learn to check and rule out switches. Probably a good time to download and print the switch matrix off Spooky's page. You can use it to locate and check individual switches.

Thanks for taking the time to type this description out. I will give it a try. I do have a question though, will a stuck switch show up even if it's not putting a 2nd ball in the shooter lane? Getting the 2nd ball is random and happens at ball save when I'm in the middle of a game.

This makes a lot of sense and I will check it as well. I haven't been into that part of the menu. Is there a single coil adjustment like JJP games and if so is there a recommended setting? If not I will just go by trial and error.

When something unexplained happens during game play, since you are at home, open coin door and enter switch menu, forget about your game a minute. Suppose you have 5 balls in the trough, one in the shooter lane and one stuck under a sling. The game should show: 5 in the trough, 1 in the shooter lane, 1 pressing on sling switch and 1 open coin door switch for a total of 8. What I am trying to say is that the switch matrix shows what's open or closed at any moment.

Note-with 2 ball issue, you would expect to see 5 balls in trough, 1 ball in shooter lane, the other ball in shooter lane won't register, and 1 open coin door. Maybe that won't solve your 2 ball issue since that is a known bug, but it should rule the switches out as the cause. Using the switch matrix may help track down other issues later.

Ok, I'm not worried about blowing a game, but thought you meant to check this at bootup before starting a game, makes more sense now. Thanks again for the explanation!

The 2-ball issue happened last night, I got in the switch matrix, all that I saw was 5 balls in trough and one in shooter lane, didn't see the door switch that I saw.

I've been a little discouraged and just left zombie on the backburner because of all the problems I had but finally got someone with a computer to get mine upgraded to the newest software version today.Wondering what the status of the infected modes are,After the upgrade they were turned off still.Turn them on or leave them off?Do they still have problems?Mine is on route in public if it matters.

I think the simplest answer to your problems is "Leave it off" for now.

Just leave infected off. Cool mode but isn’t utilized in a great way.

Just beat every mode first time out and you’ll never see it.

I'm still getting the two balls in the shooter lane. I verified all of my switches are where they are supposed to be per the switch matrix and I turned the trough power up to 10, but it's still happening. Anything else to look at?

It’s very strange that only certain machines seem to have this problem. In earlier code I had it happen may 2-3 times. I’m using V22 now and have had zero problems with that.

Have you confirmed you are on the newest code! Maybe formatting the SD card and re-flashing the machine would help? I’d try and reach out to Spooky tech support once again for other ideas.

Hopefully here soon they will have Alice Cooper at a good point and can fully finish the RZ code. Let’s get these bugs squashed and maybe get a couple additions.

check to make sure everything is tight on the mech that kicks the balls out of the trough .

Yes, I am on version 22. I think I am going to reach out to Spooky and see if they have any ideas.

not a bad idea, I will do this before I contact spooky.

I've got the opposite problem right now, all my switches are registering and all coils fire in test mode but when I push the start button the game just sits on the "Loading..." screen and never kicks a ball into the shooter lane. I've flashed the code a few times and Spooky tech support wants me to go over the coin door switch wiring again but I don't get why it would work in test mode and not in a game if that were the issue.

I just tested this again on my machine. If the coin door is open (or if the machine thinks it is because of a faulty interlock switch), then it will continue to show the "loading" screen and will not start the game properly. On the flip side of that, if your coils are working fine in the coil test, then the machine must see that the interlock switch is closed. This is a tricky one. I have attached the switch matrix for you to look over. If the 2 box down in the far right column is solid, then the machine thinks that the "coin door" is closed (via either really being closed or pulling the tab of the interlock switch out). While in test mode, go to the switch matrix and move that switch around with your finger or the door itself and see if it is making a solid contact, or is flaky. Actually, try it with the door closed, check the metal tab on the door to make sure it is closing the switch properly. you can either respond here or send me a followup email ([email protected])

Thanks Chris, I'll do that. Lately just been too tired when I get home from work to fiddle with it much - at work right now actually. This past weekend I went over it briefly and didn't see any problems but I didn't go so far as to actually test continuity with my meter (like I knew I should). Tempted to short the switch for now just to see if that makes a difference.

To anyone that has had issues with their ball getting stuck in the inner orbit (from a Murder Ride shot):

I finally got around to swapping the inner orbit switch to this rounded style: https://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=535 (same switch I use on my Spine mod). Switch responds every time now and doesn't trap the ball at all (it progressively got worse for me to the point where it would get stuck and not shake loose nearly every time). On rare occassion, the original switch wouldn't register shots either (miss locking a H1kC ball), but so far so good with the new one. [my guess is that the sharp angled factory switch was ramping the ball into the air from that direction...something I can observe on my SoF when the ball goes up the inlane Shatz style].

As I've seen several posts of people pulling their ramps to figure out why this is happening to them, perhaps this route is worth giving a shot

I had to cut some of the plastic off a nearby switch base to get this one to fit, but otherwise the factory holes are the same and it's a quick swap.

As my Red Hot shot doesn't always like to register either, that one will likely be next.

Does anyone know whose boobs are on the DMD? Asking for a friend.

Had not thought about that until now.

I’ve mostly been dreaming of Bowen adding some goodies to the code and the apron mod to be developed further.

I think they’re Keefers.

Can you guys lend some ideas on the sound settings? I can't figure exactly what to set where. Bass vibrates cabinet in a bad way.

Cabinet or glass? If latter, anti-rattle tape?

I had to tape mine as the glass rattle was bad. An external sub is also a big upgrade on RZ and can allow for less bass from the cabinet.

#9880 5 years ago

I'll try with the glass off, but I'm pretty sure it's def cabinet

Have we been given any time frame for when the code will be updated again?

#9882 5 years ago
Quoted from pinballkim:

Have we been given any time frame for when the code will be updated again?

I’ve been thinking about this too, but I don’t think a timeline has been given. I would assume maybe later this summer as Alice code is further along and games are shipping.

Really hope they fix/polish a few more things and fawzma could get back to his apron mod too. I feel like that has potential to add even more depth to the game if he has the time to complete it.

#9883 5 years ago
Quoted from pinballkim:

Think the ACNC code is still super basic, judging by what some people who went to the SFG show said. So I'd guess some way off.

#9884 5 years ago

I too believe fawzma is totally focused on just Alice Cooper right now. Rz would be in his spare time.

You can turn that off in the menu.

I'd be happy if the bug in House of 1,000 corpses would be fixed so I can get multipliers in that mode again. I haven't been able to finish that mode in months.

Not a bad idea. If I can’t shut it off, I’ll add some porno sounds or something.

Played with glass off. Bass was def rattling the glass, not the cabinet. Sounds perfect with glass of. I'll be taping glass to fix the issue.

I wasn't aware of that issue. Good to know.

If it can be edited maybe you can add a one second silent track. If you can't stop it from playing have it play nothing.

I currently have the LE on the way. I had previously purchased the standard and LE translites from Spooky which have both been autographed by Rob, Sheri, and John5. However, it appears that this pin has a backglass and does not use a translite? I'm just checking to confirm this as if that's the case I will need to have the backglass autographed and find alternate use for the translites.
Can someone shed some light on Spooky's use of backglass vs. translites?

The games all use a form of backglass. If you want to use the translights you will need to have a piece of glass cut.

Are the translites the same size as the backglass? Just checking for purposes of what glass might be needed. Otherwise, I may be selling the tranlites as I have photos of them being signed.
