I have a RS I’ve been working on and the last issue I have is Red’s jaw. Sometimes the jaw is half open, sometimes it is three quarters open, sometimes fully open and other times it’s closed fully. The jaw does move up and down with the speech. This is different than Ted’s jaw, which is either fully open or fully closed. How should Red’s jaw behave? I assume fully open or fully closed, never in between.

Are there adjustments or calibrations that can be made? Don't see any tests in the menu. Does the game learn how the jaw should move over time? I replaced the drive gears with new ones from Marco and the behavior didn’t change. the gears seem to move freely and i added just a little white lithium grease. Reflowed the solder on the connector pins on the motor board with no change. wires at J126 on the driver board look correct according to the manual.

When I switch the connectors on the dual H board so that red's motor drives ted, the problem does not follow to Ted and red behaves the same way with Ted's motor. This leads me to believe there is no wiring or electrical issue and something more mechanical going on.

i think I have it fixed. for future reference that those who may have similar issues, it was not an electrical issue. i loosened the left motor bracket so the gears could move a little more freely and squirted just a little wd40 on both of the gear shafts and worked the gears back and forth for a while. They still don't move quite as well as the ones for Ted, but they seem to be spinning well enough to allow the jaw to function properly. Ted's are nearly 30 years old so they will never feel the same. If you can easily move the jaw up and down from above the playfield, that should be a good sign it will move properly during the game.

I think I finally have this game where it should be, just a little more cleaning, paint the radio, add some side mirrors and I'll be done. I just installed the new CPU ROM that adds some randomness to the game, will see how I like it.
