So I was playing Road Show tonight and then during multiball the whole thing shorted out, DMD died, all lights nothing. still had sound but that is it. Turned off and on, came back up but DMD scrambled. Turned off and on again, everything came back on. Played another game but then same thing DMD became scrambled and then lights out.

what gives?

Thanks for the tip LTG

May have found the issue,

my wife noticed that there were some frayed wires near the coin door, probably caused by door rubbing on the wires, will solder the wires and tape tomorrow and test. Will also reroute the wires away from the coin door

Good for her. I hope you get it going. Such a great game. If not PM Rob Anthony

didnt work, in the middle of a game all the lights and the DMD go out, still have sound though but no balls or power to the flippers etc

Have you tried re-seating the connectors at the boards?

#8 10 years ago

Hey Wolf, Yeah that was one of the first things I did

Found the issue. There is a plug with a red and black wire that was shorting against the coin door. Not sure what this wire is for as it has a mulex connector but doesn't seem to belong to anything, I checked the schematics and wiring diagram, but couldn't find it or if it has a purpose. It may be for the printer connector inside the cabinet. Anyhow, it was causing a short, I taped the end and then taped it to the side of the cabinet so that it will no longer short the game out. I have played about 10 games and it is working with no issues at all now. No clue why that connector is in there at all

I don't know what the conector is for either, but glad you found the problem.
Way to go nsmith.

here is the red and black wire connector that was causing the short,

and another cable that was also plugged in that seems to serve no purpose, I unplugged it and the game works? what the hell are these for?

I dunno, maybe someone that does will chime in here.

#12 10 years ago

they are not even listed in the operator manual or in any of the schematics

#13 10 years ago

Perhaps for a bill acceptor? I think my DM has same plug on it and has it plugged into that.

#14 10 years ago

Thanks Dmacy I will remove them as they are not needed

#15 10 years ago

the first one looks like a self made 12V connector.
The second is indeed connection for Bill Validator
Careful with the black and white wires, they really sting since it is mains power (110 Vac)

Awesome,

thank you for confirming this Zaza. Still no clue what that first wire is for but since it was shorting the game out and seems to have no purpose at all I will remove it as well.

Thank you all for helping with this.

1st connect looks like one for an aftermarket topper or lit mod, coin door is usually where you power them from.

#18 10 years ago

Dang the topper, Ill check to see if the topper is still working, if not Ill have to figure out where this goes plugged in.

#19 10 years ago

OK I confirmed that the red and black wire are for the topper I downloaded the manual and now know where it goes plugged in. I will reattach must have come lose due to the shaker motor
