RS owners... I need help with getting balls in Red's mouth. Ive owned my RS for 15 years or more, and have only maybe twice shot a ball into Red's mouth. Her mouth opens all the way up, and she speaks with it fully open at times, but it is rarely when the ball is coming out of the lock for the shot to her mouth. How often during normal game play will you put a ball in her mouth?, as it seems from searching the forum here it happens frequently, just not on mine. I know I'm going to get a lot of funny comments on this subject , not sure how to keep this question on topic Is it a ROM issue or a sensor issue I wonder, test mode works perfect in everything to do with her.
Thanks,
JP

Ok,thanks for the link , watched a couple of the videos , seems this shot into her mouth is few and far between. The shot off the flipper for the million points or hitting her mouth happens regularly , just doesn't go In very often . If this is the case , it's the hardest shot in pinball history . Maybe a home rom with code to leave her mouth open more would be nice .
I did learn some strategy by watching the videos , so was certainly worth while , I know now to get into Miami mode and wear out that spinner

That is good news guys, I was concerned that something was malfunctioning . I just went through the lovely job of removing Ted and fixing his eye plunger a couple months ago. Since day one ( 1998 ish) , when he goes to sleep at multiball, and then wakes up afterward, his eyes would not open until the next ball ( or next game, cant remember). Finally bit the bullet and pulled him out and replaced a 90cent part to fix that. It was the centering flange for the "eye lid open" coil.

On a side note, if this game had a sy-fi theme with exact shot layout, it would be a thousand dollars more expensive than it is. Fast Fast Fast game play. 2 talking heads- both spit balls, moving dozer target, skill shot ball launch , skill shot mode , ramps everywhere, whats not to love.

erico201 , Is that the actual kit and followed the instructions? I like the violet, wondered if you deviated from the kit at all.
Is it as purple as it looks in the photo?
Any chance someone has a layout of the bulb color/location for that kit? I have tons of LED's and just need to order what I'm missing. Just might pimp it out .
Thanks.

Gonna LED my RS soon ANyone have suggestion on GI color, accent colors, something they can share a pic of and get me something to think about.
Thanks .

#1260 6 years ago

Thanks for the GI suggestions , I'll just use cool white and not get too crazy.
One question though , warm white or yellow under yellow inserts? Seems yellow bulbs look bad under yellow, been a while since I've done a game.

Thanks.

Quoted from PinballCoug:

Does anyone know when the yellow dome below the radio is supposed to illuminate? It is not listed in the manual lamp or flasher locations and does not light up through lamp, flasher, or GI tests.

Flashes with the jets fiasher , menu #44 in flasher test . It's an 906 bulb I believe .

#1262 6 years ago

BTW: not in manual .

Wow, blue ! I have some spare blue 44's , could play with them some when changing it out . I did that with WH2O, didn't work out too great

Might need to ask in new thread, but I'll try to help.
There are folks much smarter than me here, but I'll give you a starting point . Issue 2&3 are similar issues. Under the pf there is a small green board ( 3/4"x 3" if I remember right ) right under where the ball would travel to reds mouth or the bulldozer blade. It senses the ball by a magnet , and knows it's there. It has a small adjustment pot on it, use a Jewlers screwdriver and adjust to the point just where the red led indicator light turns off. Don't touch the screwdriver to anything by accident, cover all but the tip with black tape if need be .

Issue 5, might be EOS switch, or might be dirty opto on cabinet mounted flipper switch .
Clean the opto with a q tip . Check flipper switches in switch test in diagnostic. Swap flipper switches and see if problem goes away, or changes sides, there are no upper flippers on the right side so it might fix it.

That's it for me, hope it gets u started .

Other than a little blue LED at the radio, is the rest just bright white in the GI?

Yet another version of the radio painted. I took someone else's version and tweaked it a touch. I do like the silver and black .
Today's project is to refurb the coin door . Having a hell of a time finding semi-flat black krylon. Craft store, Home Depot, and target were a no go. Gonna do the 2 step method with barely pressing down on gloss to speckle over the semi flat .
It's a rainy day in georgia , nice full day project , with a two hour intermission at a local pinball bar in downtown . Gotta let my harness dry anyways.

Quoted from Mrawesome44:

Hey Guys 2 problems. My trough jam switch was acting up again. I took a qtip and got some of the dirt out. Turned it back on and surprisingly its working again. Going forward what should i be concerned about with the trough? new boards, leds, etc?. The bigger issue is my backbox is not lighting up. My game ended and i noticed my backbox wasnt lit. Turned the pin back on and when i started a game it came back on but cut back off. Now it doesnt light at all. Where should i start looking first. Everything works gameplay wise and i cant notice any lights or gi out on the playfield

Sounds like GI connection on the board. Don't remember what color wires on the connection . I'll look later and reply if someone doesn't beat me to it . GI connections always get overheated , and will get brown and crispy . Usually can look at them and tell which is the GI connection . Could try to just pull and reseat it if it's just corroded from overheating .

#1313 6 years ago

Ok, GI issue guy. Big green PCB in back box , bottom right board . Power driver board .
Look at connectors at J121-1 through J121-9. Probably find J121-7 , 8 or 9 kinda crispy . Again , pull out connection and reseat and see if it helps. If so, you might have to rebuild that connector , or hack a repair on it with a single push on connector to get it working . Preferably a proper connector repair of course . Don't solder the wire to it , someone will hate you down the road .
Hope I helped some.

Love it when it's something simple. Enjoy the Road Show, had mine for 20 years , still love the game , never tired of it .

I sell car paint for a living, so I used automotive base coat for the silver and black. I first sprayed a coat of Epoxy sealer , after an hour I sprayed the silver. Next day i masked off the silver areas and sprayed the black . an hour later i used paint pens and did the buttons and fine intricate black on the radio dial. I chose not to clear it, might change my mind , not sure I want it glossy as hell.
How could you do it?, scuff with scour pad ( red scotchbrite 3M pad) and soap and water to dull best you can, spray a coat of adhesion promoter, follow instructions, and then spray your colors from an aerosol can. I can't recommend this ( link below) because I didn't use it but it looks like it would work as an adhesion promoter to put down before your first color. BTW, getting paint to stick well to plastic is tough if you don't know what kind of plastic it is, and i bought the marco radio as to not ruin my original. Had a little adhesion issue in the groves around the speakers and used a pen to touch up.
Best to spend the $15 and do it on a replica of the original.

Quoted from Carbonellie:

Hey Joey, yes it is for sale! the @ pinballDoctor1 makes them, and sells them, send them an email and the rest goes automatically.

Thanks, I'm checking into it . Not usually intererestd in mods, but this one is very nice and plays well into the game . And my wife even thinks it's a cool mod and it's one of her favorite games , so I gotta find one
