Hi,
So excited to be part of the RS club starting today. A fully restored real beauty, with NOS playfield, new Red face, new Ted face, new UV printed decals, new lampcards, and with many-many new or refreshed parts.
The longest part of restoration was a reproduction phase of faces from first design/protos until the latest layer of paint.

Do you guys have a high-quality (not original) Pinsound package for RS?

Thanks,

After restoration, we have 1 set of Red and Ted face as spare. Stronger than original, vivid colors. PM me if you would like to get them. In case of more demand, we are able to create a small batch.

Red & Ted faces are on the way to USA, sold, thanks for interest. We've only 4 pairs available, and we won't create more, this is too time consuming.

Hey guys, just picked up a RS yesterday and it doesn't have the factory shaker. I have done a little looking around for a new shaker kit but I haven't found anything. Is there a direct replacement kit for this game?

Never heard about replacement kit.
Option 1: if you are a DIY guy, build your own. Contact Averell, he built a cool shaker for his WMS IJ.
Option 2: Pinsound team is working on shaker (plug&play to Pinsound board).

Okay gentlemen, there's a good chance I will be joining this club (finally) very soon. Got a game on the chopping block, got the unofficial "okay" from the wife last night, and there's a Road Show for sale up north, so I have one important question to ask all of you before I take the plunge:
How much of a pain in the ass are Red and Ted to fix/maintain?
Any/all advice and feedback will be greatly appreciated!

Great summary:

I talked to NinJaBooT about doing the Red & Teds Road Show. All the aprons are rusted due to lack of proper(?) paint.
Does anyone have the correct dimensions on the apron?

I can prepare a drawing during the weekend.
I guess top view only is OK.

Quoted from dirtbag66:

Okay, thought if I played the game enough I would be able to answer my own question, but it hasn't happened so here I am.
How do you get to San Francisco? I've been to every other city (including Seattle and L.A.), but the game will not let me go to San Francisco! I've even traveled cross country multiple times in a game and they just have me go to Seattle or L.A. again!
Is there something I'm missing here?

http://pinball.org/rules/roadshow.html

City Scenes (modes)

Each of the cities on the US map corresponds to a mode. That's right, eighteen of 'em! The cities are roughly in a grid, 6 columns by 3 rows. The top row of lights is white, the middle row is yellow, and the bottom row is orange. It's not a perfect grid, though; in fact, from going from right to left, the colors always rotate in the same order: white, orange, yellow.
To begin a mode, shoot either the Start City Scene scoop or the Blast Hole when the Start City Scene globe light is flashing. You cannot start modes during multiball, or when you have locked two balls and Ted is asleep. You also cannot have more than one mode running at a time (but see bugs).
The currently flashing mode is always one of the next two cities on the map (going from right to left), so your first mode is either New York (white) or Miami (orange) -- the rightmost 2 cities on the map. This means that you can never play two modes of the same color in a row. The exception to this rule is the West Coast cities - you can reach any of the three cities on the coast.
The currently flashing mode changes when you hit a bumper or standup of the same color as a city that you can reach at that time. So for example, at the beginning of the game, New York is the flashing mode, but hitting an orange bumper or standup changes the mode to Miami; and hitting a while bumper or standup changes it back to New York.

Quoted from dirtbag66:

I know all of that. Just wondering if there is something special I need to do to get to San Fran! I've literally never seen that mode.

Another hint: don't go to Salt Lake city (yellow) before final city (San Francisco: yellow). You can never play two modes in the same color in a row.

I would only install a PinSound board into my Roadshow if there would be an Endprodukt-like reorchestered original theme available...

Effect, callouts in RS are OK. You can change the atmosphere of the game with new songs, this is an easy process.

Quoted from FiatsRUs:

I was having trouble with the sensors in front of the bulldozer losing sensitivity, or quitting altogether, and I had to adjust the pots on the eddy boards frequently to get the sensors working again. I did some Pinside research and it seems that the problem is with the 10K pot on the eddy board getting worn and moving as a result of vibration from game play and the shaker. I replaced the old pots with a type of Bourns potentiometer that requires 25 turns on the adjusting screw to go from 0 to 10K ohms versus about 3/4 of a turn on the old one for the same range. My thinking is that the adjustment is not only more accurate, but they should be much less prone to movement from the shaking. Time will tell but it is working out great so far.
Note that the white goo in the picture is silicone that will be clear when it cures.

Good idea, thanks for sharing. I will try 3296 series, that looks more convenient (adjustment at top).

Hello everyone, I have a question about the Road Show I own. The insert in the middle of the playfield that is above the 2x,3,x,4x,5x,6x that reads Light Extra Ball never activates during game play. I know the bulb is good because the insert does work during the game when the lights flash and also during the attract mode. I also rebuilt the connector to the board under the playfield where the insert is located. I was wondering if anyone knows where the bulb is linked or activated from under the playfield and during game play. I also looked at the light matrix and everything on the matrixs work. Thanks for the help
Lee

Is extra ball enabled in the menu?

#1406 6 years ago

Ah, got your point.
You have to score bonus multipliers by shooting bridge outs (Ramps), 2x, 3x... until 6x.
After 6x, next award is extra ball - with red light.
You have to do it in the same ball. After ball drain, bonus resets (unless you have keep bonus award).

I'm in need of two simple parts for Red's eyes.
The plastic eyelid link 03-8479 and the centering flange 03-8486.
These are $3 and $2 each at Marco's Specialties, but shipping to the Netherlands will kill the deal completely.
Can someone who is ordering at Marco's help me out?
Order these parts for me and put them in a simple bubble envelope.
If you will send them to me for more aceptable fees, I'll be more than happy to PayPal you the owed money.
Maybe someone might consider it being a donation....

The problematic one is available in Germany:

I am having problems with balls being stuck in the lock shot/spinner ramp. Happens maybe 1/3 of the time. The balls get freed when the game goes into the stuck ball mode but this takes time and often results in modes timing out. There is a lot of stuff on the playfield preventing me from diagnosing the problem. I did not see anything obvious on the underside of the playfield. Is this a common issue? Any ideas on where to start or how to resolve this?

First check this microswitch, this is responsible for ball detection above vertical upkicker coil:

20190311_150906 (resized).jpg20190311_150906 (resized).jpg20190311_150917 (resized).jpg20190311_150917 (resized).jpg
#1627 5 years ago

Normally, this is the sequence:
1. Ball moves to ball trough
2. Microswitch detection, switch registers
3. Blinking flasher
4. Upkicker kicks

So you are OK until point 4?

I'm in the middle of renovating my newly bought RS and I've come to the part where I'm pondering over what to LED and what not. Usually I let GI and backbox stay incandescent and all the inserts get LED and it will probably be the same on this one. It's been a while since I played a RS though and I can't remember if this game have a lot of fading/dimming GI or not, as that might affect my decision to LED the GI too (I like bright games).
I know about the different OCD boards but those are not an alternative at the moment (I've already spent way to much on replacement parts for this game).

Intensive dimming at extra ball, at multiball restart, at super payday, just to name a few. Without GI OCD board, it's like a strobe light. The dimming goes down to very low level.

Quoted from monkfe:

Got a question for the group...concerning left shooter lane strategy..so there are three shots here, if the last shot is lit (far one and at Ted's head), you get 25mil., but if you go short, the second gives 5 mil ( I think), i would think shooting this short would give the higher points because what difficult about slamming the ball north to Ted? Also what achievement lights these shots...am I missing something here on the strategy.

From the rulesheet:

<6> Flying Rocks

Flying Rocks is akin to the Steps in FunHouse. First light the Left Ramp by getting a Wheel award or enough Blasts (Flying Rocks can NOT be stacked at the Ramp). Hitting the Ramp sends the ball down to the left-hand plunger (using some cleverly-placed diverters). A habitrail leads away from the plunger, and it has three exits. Each exit has an award:

Bottom hole
Lite 5x Blast. The ball is fed to the Middle Left Flipper for a one-time shot at the Blast Targets.
Middle hole
Lite Radio Riot. The ball is fed to the Left Inlane. Each hit to the three-bank of Radio Targets scores 10M for the rest of the ball. Sometimes you'll hear air checks from radio stations: "Turn your knob to BOB. BOB 100 FM", "103.5 - WYNY."
Top hole
Lite EB. The ball is fed to the Inside Right Inlane, which is a pretty good setup for a shot at the Lock.
If you send the ball past the top exit, it will hit Ted in the head! This makes Ted very sore and awards 25M. The ball will roll back to the top hole and exit that way.

Hitting one of the lower three shots when lit unlights it. The Lite 5x Blast hole is lit for you at the start of the game, and another is lit the first time you get the ball to the Rocks Plunger. Hitting the Center Loop at any time also lights the next unlit Flying Rocks shot. In any event, the shots are always lit in order from bottom to top, and you can collect only one EB from the Rocks per game.

Note 1: If a ball goes airborne and lands at the Rocks Plunger, you will be able to collect the Rocks awards, just as if you had gotten the ball there legitimately.

Note 2: hitting one of the three lower Rocks shots awards 10M if it was lit, and 5M if not.

Seems the bulldozer blade is not available. Are you looking for the blade only, or the up/down assy too?

Option 1: start a wanted ad.
Option 2: it's a medium complexity part. After modeling, 3D printing is possible.
Option 3: you can ask Planetary if there is any plan for a reproduction.

Matte is the right one. If yours is shiny, use a 3M scotch brite pad, and you will see a nice matte surface quickly.

Ted's eyes were not working (no power to the solonoids) so I attempted to remove the head to find what was happening. It ended up being a disconnected wire but I have never had to remove so much stuff just to get the head unit out. I also have a broken crank arm (that's why Ted was a little cross-eyed) that I had to order. I just hope I can remember how everything goes back again.

Thank you for the advice. I ordered the Marco ones and they showed up not looking the best. The yellow portion has black streaks/lines almost like the black ink bled into the yellow as they printed. The yellow is a much brighter color then the original as well. I’ll reach out to Marco and see what they say.
In the mean time im still on a hunt.

2 different processes:
The original is screen printed, with vivid and deep colors.
The new one is a digital print.
Day and night, they can't reproduce the good old process.

Hey guys, an issue just popped up on my RS. Sometimes when I activate the left flippers, it scores dozer hits. For example I can advance the days of the week or smash cabs in NY by pressing the left flipper button. Any idea where to start troubleshooting this one? Fliptronics board? Thanks!

The silkscreened version is available in Europe, at Ministry of Pinball.

It's available in Europe, at Ministry of Pinball, they ship to US.

Quoted from Lhyrgoif:

I had to recheck on mine and yes I have two screws too (one was hidden beneath the TNT mod) but the plastics are indeed were floppy in the upper part.

Maybe it's intentional, to provide some room, to absorb ball hit impact.

Quoted from Scoot:

I did have a difficult time matching the blue paint so thank you for suggesting this color. There is really little difference from a spray can to an airbrush. Of course an airbrush gives you far greater control but a spray can can do the same job. You will just have to be careful with overspray so mask everything you don't want paint. Also, airbrushing with acrylic paints means I can paint indoors without stinking up the place. If you use a spray can, it will smell up the whole house if done indoors (I know, I've done it) so take it to the garage or outdoors.
The xacto knife should only cut the frisket, so be careful not to cut too deep. Here are some other examples that I have done.
Frisket is cut and remove what to paint.

Exactly. My friend also did this method.

I just took a look at my own game. I can't see that plastic anywhere on mine. Are you sure it belongs to this game? Where did you get it?
Maybe someone just assumed it is a RS plastic because it's similar to other plastics for this game.

It's part of the full plastic set.

It's out of stock at PSPA. I think the standard ball gate extension spring will do the job. Cut it, and bend the end similar to original spring.

I am due to start a full refurbishment of my Roadshow and am really trying to track down a set of Official Planetary Pinball Cabinet Decals. Does anyone know of any available anywhere or does anyone have a set they would be willing to sell. I have a set from elsewhere, but the colour match is no where near the originals.
Any help or advice in tracking down a set of Official PPS Roadshow Cabinet Decals would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Be careful.
Official/licensed/geniune with a hologram sticker on it means -> royalty to PPS, nothing more. Quality/color match is not guaranteed.

All right, had a bit more time to dig into Road Show again, only a few issues with the rebuild some I'm pretty happy about that!
Can someone take a photo of the wiring for their right flipper and upper left flipper? I replaced the whole flipper mechs due to bulged coils, and those two don't work. The wiring I have is inverted on these two - which matches my shop out photos of the machine - but when I go it, I'm not sure they were working, that doesn't mean anything.
Switches work, coil tests do nothing. All other coils work, as well as all motors.
Otherwise, I've just got to figure out why half the GI is out (upper left hand side and half of the Backbox).
Thanks again for the help!

I hope it helps!

Quoted from ViperTim:

Mine is full LED without any expensive LEDOCD boards.
I always disable “GI dimming” in the menus of the game when converting to LED and that’s it.
No weird flickering at all.
Never used any LEDOCD boards but they seem extremely overpriced for what they are and the little they add.
The only game I’ve LED so far that was annoying was my Cirqus Voltaire which has dimming on GI before plunging the ball.
But just disabling “GI dimming” in the menus fixed all that.

I would not call disabling GI dimming as a fix.
Road Show has a lot of GI effect during multiball, extra ball award, wizard mode, and so on.
GIOCD is not the only one option, there is a cheaper alternate available.
