I just picked up a HUO Ripleys. Very nice game but it has a few bugs.
When I start a game the Idol starts making its sound the entire game (Like its being activated) until I hit it. After that, the Idol opto goes out and does not come on. If I hit the pop bumpers it then comes back on. I also noticed that When the idol acts as if its continually on the magnet underneath the head seems weak and cannot through the ball back behind like it should.

There are no issues showing up in the Switch Matrix. The Idol opto functions as it should in the test.

Any help on where to start would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Try cleaning the optos and also the area on top of pf. See if that gets you going. Easy start to solve it anyway. : )

Still nothing.
Thank you for the advice. Sometimes it's easy to forget the basics.

lol. Thanks.
Looks like a common problem
I have a bunch of new optos and none of the ones for Ripleys.

Are these the replacements? They act as both senders and receivers ?

Thank you

Not sure, sorry. If you have the manual see what the part # is and then maybe you can cross reference. Orrrr, somebody in the know will chime in!

Cash Riprock,
Thank you for your help.

I tried...sniff-sniff. : )

If you don’t have a manual lmk and I’ll look up the part #.

Replaced idol opto's.
Same problem. Hopefully my opto board will get here in the next day or two.

You may want to re-flow the solder on the opto board connector pins. I notice that mine will register hits if the wires are loose at all or there are cold solder joints on that board. I also found switching the connectors can help.

Agreed. Never had an opto board issue but things like trough boards are known to get cold solder joints .

Will do tonight.

Thanks guys!

Progress......or lack of

Switched out Idol Opto's, Same Problem.
Switched out pf Opto board, Same Problem.

Since the magnet for the shrunken head seems sluggish to the point were it can't swing the ball behind the head I thought I'd change that opto board out as well. NOTHING.

I want to confirm, The idol should remain on the entire game correct? My last machine did.
When I hit the pop bumper by the idol it does turn the idol back on but it does not stay on.

Really scratching my head on this one. Everything is great in switch test.

Thank you in advance for the help!

On my Idol once the ball goes through it - the red light goes out and does not work untill you make a loop or into the scoop shot .

No. You probably thought it did but doubtful. You see when the idol is not on the back light will be telling you to shoot it in the event scoop to wake up the idol.

#21 6 years ago

McPin54 - the red light should be on at the start of a ball , goes out after he throws the ball around , then you have to wake him back up with different shots . Is the red light on ?

Thank you for confirming.

Can anyone explain this behaviour? In gameplay the standup to the right of the Idol triggers the idol magnet.
In switch test mode it registers as expected, ie the standup target.

No idea, but if the idol has original optos or you're not sure if they've ever been replaced, get new ones. The originals don't age well and can cause phantom switch closures, usually from flashers. Shrunken head optos should be replaced too. Random idol sounds when ball isn't near idol absolutely means you need new optos.

I have changed the optos and the board under the playfield and the optos still do not register for the idol.
However a hit to that standup triggers the idol magnet. But why?!

That idol opto turns on the magnet. Go into switch edges test and see if the standup target triggers the idol switch. If yes, you have a switch matrix issue.

In switch test that stand up triggers Tombstone 1 which is correct.
Go into gameplay and that same stand up triggers the idol magnet instead!

How does it behave differently?
