First Toy City and now Toys R Us.

I could see the writing on the wall when I took my daughter there in the 2000s. A huge superstore with none of the cool toys like we used to have.

Sad day indeed. It will be missed. RIP.

So where do you go to shop for kids toys now?

    Walmart, of course.

KB was the standard mall toy store. I remember that was the first place I ever heard that song "Little Willy" by Sweet. And the rest is history.

"Little Willy, Willy won't go home! But you can't push Willy round, Willy won't go!"

When all that's left is Amazon and Wal-mart we're all gonna be f'd.

Part of the problem is toys are pretty generic and lame these days.

Every once in a while they come up with something every kid has to have, but then you have aisles and aisles of shit no kid wants.

The toy stores I remember sold plastic models and the paint and glue to go with them, real slot cars and train sets and cox airplanes, and toy guns and rockets and other things you could make explode.

The folding of Toys R Us is just a sign of the times where you can't have anything fun if it might hurt you or somebody else.

Seems part of the toy buying experience was going in to the store and testing things out and being social with the other kids that were there, or riding our bikes down there like some little gang.

How the hell can you replicate that with Amazon?

I remember when the first Toys R Us opened around here in the early 70s.

It was bigger, but even then it's selection of toys was pretty weak compared to Toy City or even JCPenneys. And then they put those quality toy retailers out of business. No love lost here. Good riddance!
