You will be missed and never forgotten. Many fond memories playing WWF, TFTC, and Skee Ball.

Sorry to see any place close.

Damn, I haven't been there in awhile; what happened?

    #4 5 years ago

I was there for my first and last time about 5 months ago for Taste of Maplewood. Orbit was a real disappointment. Mike, the owner, didn’t seem to be a pinball tech and they said he owned and operated the games. Hard to keep games going on location, I get that, but just seemed like a dive bar with some pinball, not any kind of destination like CP, Padavans or Silver ball room.

Anyway I’m still said to see ANY place with pinball close

Hey never fear... I have an escape room downtown with 7 pinballs www.stlouisescape.com

We have Houdini, Terminator 2, Guardians, Deadpool, Simpsons, Walking Dead, and Ghostbusters.

But we're adding this week MM, Aerosmith and Metalica.

All of our games are modded out to the hilt... we're taking in Simpsons to be powder coated next week and will replace with either Star Trek or Adams Family.

At the Darkness this year we had six pinballs to play including ... Creature, Adams Family, Scared Stiff, Frankenstein, Tales Crypt, and Dracula.

If you come to The Darkness Christmas event December 15th you can play all those games. All games are 50 cents.

Eventually we're tearing out this zombie haunt behind our escape rooms and adding two lanes of bowling, bar, axe throwing and 30 pinball games. That is coming later this year.

Took these pictures on my last visit and you say to yourself who would feed quarters in to this crap this is the stuff that kills pinball. Now yes at one time these games played ok and even looked clean. Now these games are broken for months if not years. Love that some games are propped up by other games because either the cabinet is shot are legs are miss adjusted. Is it sad yes but this is an old problem for this venue was neat one it 1st opened up. to make it truly a St louis experience need some Wonder or Bfc stickers slapped on the apron. This is what pinball looked like by the mid 90's in St Louis if not before.
I wish the owner of these game the best in getting these games back up and running again would like to play them but not like this. Played 3 games of Tales from the Crypt before walking out it worked ok but upper playfeild gi was burnt out. Had talked to guy at bar many of time about the game issues even offered help to get them fixed.

Love the Gears and Steampunk wall behind Houdini! Nice place, wish you where closer! Much success and quarters in your future!

Anyone know if the machines from Orbit will be for sale? I know they were rough, but there were still some good titles.

    #12 5 years ago

My cousin lives in that area. I tried going when we went for his wedding a few years ago but they were closed on the Sunday that was my free day. Quite a bummer that things were so poorly cared for since the location seemed pretty cool.

I'll vouch for this! Larry has some very nice games and his escape rooms are super cool (the best in the STL area for sure). Its always a great time.

OK, heres my take on Orbit Lounge.

My buddy lived in STL about 6 years ago, and I would go down and visit him. We LOVED orbit lounge. The beers were decently priced, and the games all worked for the most part. Also SKEE BAAAAALLLL!!

That being said, he moved back to Chicago and we kinda forgot about orbit. I saw they were for sale a few years ago, what happened with that? Did they not ever sell? Did it sell to some one who didnt know w t f they were doing? Whats the whole story on this?

It was my understanding that the person who owned orbit Lounge was getting older and was having difficulty working on and maintaining the games. I think he was selling the orbit Lounge for around two hundred thousand give or take. It did not include the building as it was leased. I am sad to see it go as it was a neat place to go and the bartenders I ever dealt with were always very nice. Unfortunately quite a few of the games were not playing very well towards the end and I think it was more of a symptom of orbit lounges troubles than the actual reason of its demise.

I'm only vaguely knowledgable about escape rooms. My oldest daughter has been to a few birthday parties at one, but I just drop off and pickup, so all I only know it is a timed puzzle. Are the pins open to the public not participating in the escape game?

Plenty of amazing locations here in St. Louis like CP Pinball, Silver Ballroom, The Waiting Room, Two Plumbers and Padavans to start. All with SLAP pinball leagues. Orbits never had tournaments or league play. No idea why not. Without league play and weekly tournaments there isnt much of a draw. it was a pinball themed bar with skeebal league. Wesport social and others just sapped its regulars away, not to mention location got gentrified and rent went up. Maplewood kinda died.

With orbits gone lets focus on getting out and supporting the guys that do league play and tournaments. There is much work to be done marketing these places to friends and family to the level they deserve. St. Louis has the population density to make things happen. Just need a more flexible league format, fair, highly competeive knockouts and selfie leagues.

Pinball Industry is getting close to have a major disruption in a good way. The spoils will go to those locations poised to embrace whats coming.
