Blasted Signals while playing several rounds of MB tonight. What a kick in the teeth. Neil was an influence as a musician, as a writer, as a father, as a human.

My main influences are heavy metal and thrash bands... but the early 80s Rush albums still sound mysterious to me. And these are the ones where the drumming became so prominent.

“Suddenly you were gone. From all the lives you left your Mark upon”

This may be a worse night than Dimebag.

    Quoted from DrDQ:

Yeah, when the Garden came out I said the same thing. What a swang song.
I have seen them over 25 times. Took my Daughter to the last two tours. She first saw them when she was 10. Even my sister-in-law caught the bug. Photo from the last time.
There is a reason why they have a cult following, and of course Neil was such an essential part.
    Long live the Holy Triumvirate!

That photo makes me really really happy, nice work

Pretty sure my favorite song is “Dreamline” from Roll the Bones. Possibly their weakest album but that song is a masterpiece. Perfectly captures Neil’s general mood of hopeful melancholy, and like many of his songs, reminds us of the tiny flash of time we have on this earth.

The chorus has always put a lightning rod through my heart:

    “ When we are young
Wandering the face of the earth
Wondering what our dreams might be worth
    Learning that we're only immortal
    For a limited time”

    —-

He's got a road map of Jupiter
A radar fix on the stars
    All along the highway
    She's got a liquid-crystal compass
A picture book of the rivers
    Under the Sahara

They travel in the time of the prophets
On a desert highway straight to the heart of the sun
Like lovers and heroes, and the restless part of everyone
We're only at home when we're on the run
    On the run

He's got a star map of Hollywood
    A list of cheap motels
    All along the freeway
She's got a sister out in Vegas
The promise of a decent job
    Far away from her hometown

They travel on the road to redemption
A highway out of yesterday, that tomorrow will bring
Like lovers and heroes, birds in the last days of spring
We're only at home when we're on the wing
    On the wing

    When we are young
Wandering the face of the earth
Wondering what our dreams might be worth
    Learning that we're only immortal
    For a limited time

    Time is a gypsy caravan
    Steals away in the night
To leave you stranded in dreamland
    Distance is a long-range filter
    Memory a flickering light
    Left behind in the heartland
We travel in the dark of the new moon
A starry highway traced on the map of the sky
Like lovers and heroes, lonely as the eagle's cry
We're only at home when we're on the fly
    On the fly
We travel on the road to adventure
On a desert highway straight to the heart of the sun
Like lovers and heroes, and the restless part of everyone
We're only at home when we're on the run
    On the run

I’d definitely be a NIB buyer for a Rush pin. Think of all the characters and jokes and SONGS they could use. My fear is it would just become a ToM Sawyer / Limelight and-some-other-songs machine

    Other ideas:

    1) Motorcycle trip mode
    2) Drop targets with Dirk, Lerxst, Pratt
    3) By-tor and the Snow Dog bash toys
    4) Syrinx ramps
    5) Red Barchetta hurry up
    6) Fly By Night owl battle
    7) Washing Machine multiball

    #172 4 years ago
    Quoted from DrDQ:

3 Ball Multiball (Hold Your Fire, Holy Triumvirate or something along those lines) that only will work with 3.
Multiball ends after three drains. When first two balls drain they are auto saved back into play. After third drain flippers stop to bring balls back (Like TZ Lost In The Zone but without delay) puts one back in the plunger.

    NICE!

    Quoted from j_m_:

I'm surprised that no one has posted this. seems appropriate since sully erna wrote it in dedication to neil after ghost rider was published

    from the wiki page:
"The song was written by Godsmack frontman Sully Erna in tribute to one of his childhood heroes, Rush drummer Neil Peart. He wrote the song after reading the book Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road, penned by Peart about his motorcycle trip along the Pan-American Highway that he took to cope with the deaths of his daughter and wife one year apart from another."

I read that on Blabbermouth yesterday. I will withhold my opinion of the song, but I do think it’s cool he wrote it.

    Quoted from rocketman:

Heard this morning Rush will be on SiriusXM Ch 27 until Monday morning. They’re playing some pretty insightful interviews with Neil.

Damn it! Now you tell me! Interviews with Neil are so hard to find. I JUST found the print interview Mike Portnoy did with Neil in 2007, and on camera interviews are almost impossible. I’ve watched the George Stroumboulopoulos interview about 10times.

    #192 4 years ago
    Quoted from rocketman:

SiriusXM is replaying a lot of the songs/segments so I’m sure the 2 hour interview will be on again before Monday morning. I turned up the stereo volume and did a voice memo recording with my iPhone to save it. It sounds decent enough. Assume I can forward it to you if you don’t hear it.

Thanks! I missed it but I am going to see if I can find it in the SiriusXM app; they usually have content back a few days. appreciate the recording if it comes to that!

Broke out my Sector 1, 2, 3 box sets ... the 5.1 remixes by Rich Chycki are steller

    Quoted from Azmodeus:

Primus has announced a concert with a full play through of farewell to kings.
    I have my tickets already!

there was an internal debate in my band about this - 2 of the guys are in, 1 guy is not (that would be me). I'm curious how Les handles the vocals.

    Quoted from Azmodeus:

I saw the wonka set performed twice. This is the reason I love music.
Primus is the only band that should even try this IMO.
    (Play rush in their entirety)

    The wonka set?

... this version of Necromancer is not too shabby...

    #202 4 years ago
    Quoted from Azmodeus:

They played the Wonka album once through all songs. Including the bells.
They played a normal set with all thier hits like here come the bastards. After a short break and then played the full wonka album start to finish and the show ended.
The second time I saw it was the final time they said they would perform it.
    “The Wonka set”

What. The. Hell! Lol. I need to look this up...

    Quoted from DanQverymuch:

Inspirational short just released, co-written and narrated by Neil Peart
    Growth Rings

Not sure I can handle that one yet. RIP Neil.
