If any band is overdue for a pin.....here they are.
So sad to hear the news. What an amazing once in a lifetime drummer.
RIP Neil
I've been listening to Rush since Moving Pictures was released and I heard Tom Sawyer for the first time. I'm a fan for life.
There will never be another Neil Peart.
I’ve met Neil on a couple of occasions. Always intimidating, because he shaped so much of my life with his words and music. I actually wore this to Indisc today not thinking it would mean something entirely different when I arrived.
Neil Peart. No one will come close again.
Quoted from rushfan:My Pinside name says it all.
RIP Neil.
So sorry for you and the most rabid fans in rock (Rush fans). I felt like you do when Chris Squire and Keith Emerson died.
He (and they) gave me this. The greatest song to me. Red barchetta
Perfect for strolling comicon and banning both this weekend.
Rest In Peace. I was fortunate enough to see rush three times in my life.
Once first on the signals tour. Then many years later the time machine tour and then their final tour.
Rest In Peace sir.
V. Cygnus: Bringer of Balance
I have memory and awareness
But I have no shape or form
As a disembodied spirit
I am dead and yet unborn
I have passed into Olympus
As was told in tales of old
To the city of Immortals
Marble white and purest gold
Oct 29, 1978
Quoted from megadeth2600:The first Rush song that ever blew me away was "Time Stand Still". Everything about that song ... the drums, the bass, the vocals, was incredible to me. I recall listening to that song something like 20 times in a row. That song got me hooked.
It sucks that he's gone, but I have a feeling Rush's music is going to live on for many, many generations ... by extension, so will he.
I've been playing that song for my baby girl over the past few days...she smiles and wiggles around to it. Hopefully she'll still like Rush as she grows, despite most women having an aversion to them lol
RIP NEIL!!!!!

Love that song. Brings me back down to earth.
Just now listening to "The Camera Eye" from Moving Pictures. Man, some slick licks by Neil on this one.

Geddy really rips on the bass too. This is one great tune!
Was lucky enough to see them in a small basement venue in 1975 and then the 2112 tour in 1978. Doesn't seem all that long ago....
Horrible. He battled it for a long time though.
One of my favorites, and one of the reasons I started drumming when I was 11 years old. Hours playing along with YYZ live from Exit Stage Left (well, trying to). RIP man. What a fantastic & friggin talented musician.
Best rock drummer ever. I play Rush when I’m playing pinball more than any other band. Rush was way more deserving of a pin than Aerosmith was.
Always been a huge influence on my drumming, and probably every drummer since Rush started- always made me work that much harder. Sad loss, drum machines should've died today, not Neil...
Who's wearing out all those Rush albums tonight?
What's your favorite track?
Without question, this is mine

La Villa Strangiato for me, some of the best tones from Lifeson and the dynamics are incredible. Always best served at volume 11 after a 12 pack hahahaha

Get past the cheesy keyboards at the beginning and it's pure magic after that. What a great album.
This is my favorite song - pure musical bliss starts at 2.25.
Afterimage
Rush
Suddenly, you were gone
From all the lives you left your mark upon
I remember
How we talked and drank into the misty dawn
I hear the voices
We ran by the water on the wet summer lawn
I see the footprints
I remember
I feel the way you would
I feel the way you would
Tried to believe but you know it's no good
This is something that just can't be understood
I remember
The shouts of joy, skiing fast through the woods
I hear the echoes
I learned your love for life
I feel the way that you would
I feel your presence
I remember
I feel the way you would
This just can't be understood
Blasted Signals while playing several rounds of MB tonight. What a kick in the teeth. Neil was an influence as a musician, as a writer, as a father, as a human.
My main influences are heavy metal and thrash bands... but the early 80s Rush albums still sound mysterious to me. And these are the ones where the drumming became so prominent.
“Suddenly you were gone. From all the lives you left your Mark upon”
This may be a worse night than Dimebag.
I'm speechless. So sick of death.
Here are the lyrics to his last song, from their last album.
The Garden
In this one of many possible worlds, all for the best, or some bizarre test?
It is what it is - and whatever
Time is still the infinite jest
The arrow files when you dream, the hours tick away - the cells tick away
The Watchmaker keeps to his schemes
The hours tick away - they tick away
The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect
So hard to earn, so easily burned
In the fullness of time
A garden to nurture and protect
In the rise and the set of the sun
'Til the stars go spinning - spinning 'round the night
It is what it is - and forever
Each moment a memory in flight
The arrow flies while you breathe, the hours tick away - the cells tick away
The Watchmaker has time up his sleeve
The hours tick away - they tick away
The treasure of a life is a measure of love and respect
The way you live, the gifts that you give
In the fullness of time
It's the only return that you expect
The future disappears into memory
With only a moment between
Forever dwells in that moment
Hope is what remains to be seen
I'm going to go put it on now, and I already know that by the time that final, sad cello note plays I'm going to be blubbering like a baby.
Quoted from DanQverymuch:I'm going to go put it on now, and I already know that by the time that final, sad cello note plays I'm going to be blubbering like a baby.
You're not alone. We all are.
Live life while you can.
Saw them 4 times, Without a doubt the best ever. and he made it look easy.

Quoted from electricsquirrel:Farewell to Kings, takes on a new meaning tonight.
Ironic. Just jammed two games of BSD with volume down...blaring Cygnus X-1. It was awesome.
Man, what a loss. You feel it no matter what Rush song I’ve thrown on since hearing this news earlier.

I have a story about the first time I heard Cygnus X-1. I thought it was an alien invasion!
I've been a fan since I was introduced to them in late 70s (and loved the fact that people couldn't get over the fact that my two favorite bands were (and still are) rush and duran duran
seen every tour since signals in '84. the best concerts that I've ever seen by a group that gave their all to their fans. this is truly a sad day
to the professor, a drummer & wordsmith without equal
Saw Rush open for Kiss at Georgetown University in the early 70's. It was the song, ByTor and The SnowDog, that song alone got me to go see Rush. Kiss was on after them. I was in the second row on the left side in front of the speakers. OMG, that's why I have hearing loss now. I consider Neil to be in the top 3 rock drummers of all time....RIP Neil..way too young to leave.

This is the best song from their recent albums. Saw them do it live twice - it really was emotional and moving, as I knew it was their swan song.
