Wow, my condolences to the Layton's for their loss.
One of the greatest things I discovered in this hobby is a community full of brilliant, helpful folks--Ken being among the most recognized and respected here. As others noted: seeing his avatar pop up in a thread often meant you were about to learn something and/or see the solution revealed (usually both).
It's easy to take for granted some of the regulars here, to assume they'll always be around to help. Remember to take a moment to thank the folks that help us keep our games working! It's a fantastic tradition we have here of helping each other out, and I hope as we see the hobby continue to grow that we'll see others follow in the path of great people like Ken.
Luckily, in a way pinside and other forums will help carry legacies like Ken's helpfulness/brilliance well into the future for others to enjoy and learn from.
Rest in peace, Ken. I'm certain I will still be learning things from your posts years from now.
