Just got word from his family that Derron Johns of FL passed away last week... Wanted to post as a few folks in FL who knew him didn't know. Derron was a customer who became a friend... We'd text / email back and forth fairly frequently about anything pinball - never much about buying / selling but he sure did love buying all the new games that came out. He was really funny and someone that I enjoyed hearing from even if it was to ask where his games were that he had on order...

Kind of a crappy week at PinballSTAR with my friend and delivery person, Jerry losing his house, belongings and pets to a fire and now this... I did tell his brother David he had a small deposit on a Houdini and I'd refund it to them how they wished and he said keep it, I argued I wasn't going to do that, and he said then donate it as it seemed you and Derron were friends and did business together... So I'm donating to Jerry's go fund me for his family to recover from their fire in Derron's name.

Sorry for the crappy news FL pinheads... : (

I am in total shock on this one. Derron lived 5 minutes from my house.

That is a great thing to do with that money and i am sure that Derron and his family would agree. You’re a good man!

Well this sucks. For those of you who don’t know Derron AKA eggbert52 he was a good dude. I know he ruffled some feathers, but I enjoyed getting to know him over the years. RIP Derron.

Get your flu shots folks. Derron passed away from flu complications and supposedly it was very quick.

#14 6 years ago

Oh no. I didn't know him except here but I did enjoy his posts.

Wow. I almost can't believe this.

We just messaged last week. He had a question and made a side remark about having a bad flu. I wished him well with the flu and asked him if he was coming over to TPF and say hi.

He was a colorful Pinside member for sure. A pain in the butt at times, but also very friendly through the PM messages we exchanged over the nearly 7 years he was a Pinside member.

My condolences to his friends and loved ones.

#18 6 years ago

He was a colorful member for sure. Let's all play a ball for eggbert52 tonight! (And have a drink) He will be missed.

#19 6 years ago

I am very sad to hear this news! Derron could be abrasive at times here as we all can be but in my PM’s with him I found him to be a very likable enthusiastic kindred spirit.
I will miss him
RIP Eggbert52

Wow.. sorry to hear......

#21 6 years ago

It was the flu?

#22 6 years ago

Sad Sorry to hear joe. The flu has been real bad this season.

#23 6 years ago

Sad to hear. Derron lived in Richmond for a bit and I helped him set up his CV. We chatted back and forth a bit over the years and his online personality did a disservice to his real life personality. Will pour one out tonight.

#24 6 years ago

Terrible news to hear. Hopefully his family pulls through this well, it has to be a very tough time.

#25 6 years ago

Never knew him but remember him by his posts. SO very sad. This year's flu epidemic is tragic.
This one's for you Derron. Blessings to you and your family.

#26 6 years ago

So sorry to his family. RIP Derron.

#27 6 years ago

It was complications from the flu, yes.

#28 6 years ago

So sad to hear

Rest in peace Eggbert52. Only knew him on Pinside and chatted with him a few times. Always liked his posts even when I disagreed with him. So shocking that it was the flu. Also shocking to see he was the same age as me. Only 50.

50 is just too young. RIP

#34 6 years ago

Every time I saw his Avatar, I thought of the lyric, “I wasn’t born with enough middle fingers.” -mm
I wish his family strength through these hard Times.

#35 6 years ago

Very Sad! RIP

#36 6 years ago

This sucks, never met him but always enjoyed his posts. To damn young to pass away, who would think a friggin flu would cause this. RIP Derron .

#37 6 years ago

Sad news. RIP Derron. While I didn't know him personally, we exchanged a few PMs over the years. Sad to lose a member so young. Best wishes to his family.

Next knocker you hear maybe Derron will be getting his wings.

#38 6 years ago

This flu epidemic is nasty. Everyone get vaccinated. I know it's not 100% effective but it definitely enhances your immune systems' ability to fight off the virus. I'm sick of hearing about these flu deaths. It's really upsetting. RIP big guy.

#39 6 years ago

Yep. It can happen to anyone. So sad the flu took him.

#40 6 years ago

Really sorry to hear that. These recent cases are why I stopped taking the flu shot years ago. Too many people I know have contracted the flu after getting the shot. The research out there will surprise you.

Oh shit I didn't know it was Eggy that old bastard. We always got along, sad news.

Quoted from eggbert52:

The Law is just a negative nanny but he's still a good dude.

#42 6 years ago

Whoa. RIP Derron. I delivered TWDLE to him in May. He seemed like a great dude no doubt. We exchanged a few friendly messages after the transaction too. Condolences to his friends and family.

#43 6 years ago

Rest In Peace Pinball brother.

#44 6 years ago

Very sad. RIP Derron.

+1
I have no problem believing one can die from the flu at the age of 50. I'm 51, had the flu last month, never been so sick in my adult life. I swear I'll be vaccinated next winter.

#45 6 years ago

Wow - being almost 50 myself this hits home. RIP Derron.

Eeeggggggg.

#47 6 years ago

I am in my late fiftys and had it a month or so ago and it is no joke,I have never had a flu shot but will sure start next year.

#48 6 years ago

So sorry to hear about Derron, we wish his family and friends peace during their horrible loss. I had the flu for a week before the superbowl and after that hell will get the flu shot next year. RIP Derron.

#49 6 years ago

Darron was a great guy and hearing this news is terrible. He might have come across as abrasive to some on this forum, but he wasn’t like that. I’m glad we got to be friends and hang out a few times to play pinball and have a few beers.

I feel sad that the last time he texted I declined his invitation to hang out, but I had been under the weather myself and was busy with work obligations. RIP Darron.

RIP Derron. I was going to comment on the other parts of this post but this is not the time or the place.

May his family have peace during this time and the days to come.
