Just wondering about the amount of Pinsiders on RGP....

    #2 13 years ago

Yup I am, just gives me more to read while at work. Are there any other pinball forums out there that are decent?

After Pinside and RGP, these are my next two most frequented pinball forums:

(Vancouver site, mostly members only, but if your on the WestCoast of Canada it's a great site with great people)

Yep, I check in daily at RGP, usually a few times. I also drop into the KLOV pinball, BYOAC pinball, and Pinside forums a couple of times each day. I've been meaning to get active here again, I've just been busy.

I don't go on RGP unless I need a hard to find part. Besides the people, I can't stand the format.

    You missed one!

Chat is as much about real pinball as simulations, so it counts! Besides, there's people from all over the world there!

It's a little better now in the new Google groups format, but I'm still not a big fan. I don't even think there is a way to edit your posts. That being said, if you are looking to buy or sell something, RGP is a necessary evil.

    I agree %100

I check RGP, but man, there a lot of angry people on that list. I mean, how bad is your life when you have the ability to own a pinball machine?

    #11 13 years ago

RGP isn't a forum, it is a newsgroup, hence the format. I use RGP Archive to read RGP because it makes it more forum like. No, you can't edit posts on RGP because there really is no such thing.

RGP is often good for specific advice, and it is great to search since there is such a large backlog of previous advice and topics. However sometimes your questions get quickly buried and you never get a good answer. And there isn't as much interest in DE and Sega games so questions on them often die without much help.

Living in the UK, I'm not a member of RGP, but I often will have a look to see what's happening.

Yes it is a great resource. I will frequently do a search on RGP for some obscure information about a machine, the answer will often be on there somewhere.

I thought about joining that Group a few years ago before I found this site,
however after reading some messed up threads I didn't want to be a part of all that hate.
5 - 8 of their members really have it together and know what they are talking about and will find time to help you.

I can only imagine once those key members leave what will happen to that group......?

There's a lot of knowledge on RGP and I've found a number of people helpful, but since it's not moderated there are far too many dbags that feel they can say/do whatever the hell it is they please and that's quite unfortunate. It actually makes me sad sometimes. The only reason I read it really is becuase it's the place with the most content. :-/

IMHO .. Pinside is the best forum/collection of people on the internet if you are interested in this hobby. I hope tomdotcom accepted my apology concerning RGP etc. I went there once and it was not a good experience.

I agree with all the comments, good and bad, about RGP.

I post on there but sometimes I just take a break because it can get bad.

It's like a cautionary tale of how free speech can be abused.

I love the fact that "Taco Supreme" was just thrown in there!
Typical RGB troll banter. Very funny gweempose!
What did we learn from Merlin again..?

Here is a perfect example of a typical RGP thread gone awry:

Old thread but man, that was hilarious. I am glad we have high intolerance for Douches here.

The most vitriol threads usually have to do with price of pins. 9 out of 10 posts that get derailed and personal, are the ones where a pin is being sold and opinions are injected on what the seller should sell it for. The seller then defends the price. Rinse/repeat.

Couple that with no moderator, and a pot stirrer, then bingo you have a recipe for messy thread. That can be the worst of RGP.

The best of RGP is the group of guys who really know their stuff like LTG.

Here is my favorite off topic thread for a funny read:

I haven't been able to read RGP for a week. Been stuck on Aug 2 - given up on it.
