Hi,

I'm in the process of replacing the power supply of the PC, and am struggling, as everyone, to find one that fits.

I am wondering: Is the -5V rail actually used in the Pinball 2000 ?

I mean, I know it is used neither in the audio amplifier, nor the PRISM card.

But does the motherboard actually use it ?

I'm asking, because I can find ATX power supplies that would do the job, except they do not have a -5V rail (Got a +3.3 V instead, which is useless here).

If -5V is really needed, I could provide it by myself by adding a 7905 regulator on the -12V, but, in that cas, is the -12V maximal current of -0.5A sufficient to supply to both -12V and -5V ?

Any suggestion welcome.

Thanks !

Does the schematic show the -5 connection on any of the logic boards? It is unlikely to be used except for something like RS-232 communication, which I don't think was utilized in the game.

Certainly there is little risk for a game of this vintage to fire it up without the -5 to see if it boots up and plays fine.

If you do need the -5 you can add a regulator to the -12, there really shouldn't be much current drawn on either line - but you could put an ammeter in series with the -12 first to see what the draw is there prior to adding the -5 regulator.

There are +5 to -5 inverter schematics - somewhere...

This might help: http://antelopearcade.com/forum/yaf_postst4_Pinball-2000-AT-to-ATX-Power-Supply-Replacement.aspx

(Put another, way, I don't think you need to worry about details with regard to the -5V and such. A standard ATX supply will work if you do the small modification noted in the thread above.)

Check with borygard on here. He is the pin2000 master and sells oem power supplies and newer more reliable supplies too. He can answer most any question.

I have a NIB power supply for RFM. I have since sold mine. If you are in the US 48 I would sell it for $45 shipped.

This is the extra one NIB I currently have:

I bought this one on another Pinsider's recommendation as it has the cooling fan in the original place as the stock power supply. Anything that makes a power supply swap nearly plug and play = I am all for.
