Hi guys! I just joined the club. I got this (yet) ugly beauty for just 1000€ wich is nice. There are major things to do including fixing the monitor.

Some previous idiot, made it impossible to loosen those 4 head screws. They are maybe glued or what ever he did...

Anyway nice to be finally here. When I was around 6-7 my brother had an RFM. This was my first game I ever played on as a kid. Now I am 20 and finally pulled the trigger on RFM so many memories...

Also nice to see someone continuing the code. 1.91 compared to the official 1.6.

Are here some crt specialists? Is it possible to save my Fuckscam o.O monitor... The previous owner did cut the fly back wire to pull out the chassis. 3 resistors look toasty, and one cap is bulged. So i was reading through some threads. And some were saying a cap kit would fix it. But there still are those 3 burned resistors and the cut fly back wire. My biggest concern is the fly back. I don’t know where to look. Please help me. I don’t like LCDs in Pin2k.

Quoted from gearheaddropping:

I have created a functioning XP machine running on Virtual Box and loaded the Pinball 2000 updater software which launched properly. I have a USB->Null serial cable on order to hopefully handle updates. Has anyone been able to do this in the past? I am hoping to be able to update the ROMS through a modern machine using this virtual environment and without having to get into a PUB card.

A few days ago, I have updated my RFM with Windows 2000 on VirtualBox running on my MacBook.
Did work without a problem.

Quoted from gearheaddropping:

Cool....this sounds promising now. What cable did you use? I am using a Window's Surface and hope the following works as a connection: amazon.com link »

I just needed a USB to Serial adapter and a Nullmodem cable If you have any issues. Let me know I might can help.

Quoted from gearheaddropping:

Now I am just waiting for the cable.

I just can’t wait. So i have Build my own

I was visiting a friend to take some reference pictures of his RFM. But his game seemed to be a bit different compared to my game. His PDB cover was black, mine is white. And his Tilt assembly was attached to the right. Any information about what is original?

Just finished cleaning my 1000€ RFM wich i saved from getting junked... It’s incredible how well Diamondplate holds up even after 20 Years <3

It suddenly got quite during Mothership Multiball. First there were 2. I was trying to shot the right loop. This didn’t go well, so the third ball got stuck. I was then trying to shoot the left loop. To much pressure on me, I lost the fourth ball. Ended up opening the machine. After trying to shake them lose, wich ended up with tilt

For everyone else running on original hardware I’ll create an tutorial video. How to update. I’ll also include some troubleshooting if things go wrong.

#2368 5 years ago
Quoted from Zennmaster:

I'm on original hardware, and just a little cautious about attempting the upgrade for exactly those reasons.
Thanks!

Don't be scared of updating the machine. I did up and downgrade my machine multiple times. And yes things go wrong. Accidentally pulled the wrong cable... Windows started updating itself halfway through... Update failed for unknown reason...
BUT the game will automatically restore it to it default code it shipped with. So if things dont work or go wrong. You can simply retry the update.

I am on original hardware myself 4MB Ram

#2372 5 years ago
Quoted from Zennmaster:

Well, it took a lot longer than I thought it would, but I appear to have succeeded!
What didn’t work:
-Installing Windows 2000 in a virtual machine using VMware Player under Ubuntu.

Well it seems like software can cause all kinds of issues.
I have installed Windows 2000 Professional(SP3) in VirtualBox on Mac. Also using a usb to serial cable wich drivers were recommended for Win XP. But they did work in Win 2000 as well.
The code update worked first try at full speed. It took about 10 minutes to complete.

Having some issues with my WG monitor.
After installing the Ultimarc video amp. The red was gone. If I wiggle the molex connector on the chassis, red comes back to life. I did either break the molex connector or just have a cold solder connection. The connector has probably never been removed. It was really tight to get off.
I will have to pull out the chassis anyway in order to reflow solder on this molex connector. So I am going to install a cap kit wich is probably a good idea. The monitor was working fine. But I don’t want to mess around with it to often. So I just need to pull out the chassis once. I want to keep the CRT as long as possible. I don’t like TFT panels.

My question. Is it possible to get the chassis out. Without having to remove the entire monitor from the game? I don’t want to break anything...

I did already discharge the tube. I don’t want to kill myself

#2535 5 years ago
Quoted from Mancave:

Yes you can remove the chassis while keeping the CRT tube in the machine. There will be a couple of plugs to remove (they should all have connector plugs unless it has been previously fiddled with), being the chassis 110V power, the RGBSyncGND plug and the neck board from the CRT itself. Removing the neck board has to be done carefully so you don't damage the pins on the end of the CRT neck so if you're unsure of the method i would recommend googling how this is done. And i always discharge again before removing the anode cap, even if you have already discharged previously, always better to be sure when dealing with those high voltages. I can't give you a major run down on the chassis removal cause it's been a long time since i have done this on my RFM and i no longer have this machine in my collection. I still say CRT is the way to go with this machine when and wherever it is possible
EDIT : There may also be a ground plug with 1 pin that goes to the neck board, other side attaches to the degauss wire section of the CRT. (Again, i can't recall if there was one on my machine's CRT tube but a lot of CRT tubes do have this)

THX, the new caps have arrived today. So I am going to remove the chassis today. I did discharge multiple times yesterday. It’s incredible how the tube does recharge slightly even after unplugging the anode. I have watched JohnsArcade many times, so removing the neck board shouldn’t be to hard.

It’s incredible how this game is still developing 20 years after his initial release. After the first custom build release 1.9. I didn’t expect another update. But the even bigger step from 1.9 to 2.0 showed what could have become RFM back in the days. Not only RFM... the entire Pin2K platform has had a lot of potential. Sadly a very short lived platform.
Looking forward to 2.10.

Quoted from applejuice:

Not sure any reed switch is that easily available anymore and the williams ones have very specific mounting points. On little plastics lugs under the playfield. Somebody really needs to remake this parts, as its used in games before pin2k as well.
The diy fix looks horrendous and a right pita. I managed to get a few used spares but new would be so much better.

To be exact

Creature from the Black Lagoon
Cirqus Voltaire
Cactus Canyon
NBA Fastbreak
No Good Gofers
Revenge From Mars
Safe Cracker
Star Wars Episode 1

Can someone please post a picture of the ramp exit area. I need to know how high the ramp is supposed to sit. I have seen some photos where the ramp almost was flush with the slingshot plastic. Mine is much higher. Is my game wrong.
I also need the know the correct size for my missing spacer wich mounts the spotlight.

Thanks, is there a little spacer between the ramp and slingplastic? If so, it looks like I am missing it. And the big one wich is currently in is for the spotlight. Anyone knows the size of it? I cant find anything in the manual about it.

Quoted from Zennmaster:

I realize I may be dousing myself in kerosene for this one, but has anyone had any luck in brightening the playfield without going completely garish?
My game room is dimly lit, and my 85 year-old father has trouble seeing where the ball is going, so I was hoping to raise the overall lumens a little without going full stadium lights. The RFM at Logan Arcade in Chicago is a bit more than what I was thinking, but a similar idea. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a real good look at where the lights were hiding when I was there.
Any ideas?

Before actually changing something. You can try increasing the brightness via menu adjustments. Adjustments>System Adjustments>Power Saver>Lamp Intensity Level>Default is 5. 0=brightest 15=darkest. Hope this helps.

EDIT:
Make sure to power cycle the game after changing this adjustment. The change wont take effect without a power cycle.
Maybe a software bug within XINA applejuice

#2810 4 years ago
Quoted from Zennmaster:

It helps a little, but I think the basic problem is that there just isn't any illumination on parts of the playfield. In any case, thanks for the tip, I didn't even see that option before.

Well a lot of people don't know about this adjustment. idk why. Does your game have the two spotlights on both slings. If not I would add them. Some RFMs were missing them from factory. There is not much you can do about without messing up the gameplay experience. If the game gets to bright. The video animations will be dim.

Quoted from Ricochet:

I’m still having intermittent issues with the playfield lamps blanking every so often. It doesn’t always happen ... inconsistent from boot to boot. Once in a while it runs perfectly. The problem when it occurs is you hear the relay click and just momentarily all the lamps go out...they barely go out... it’s a real fast momentary event.

Quoted from mattosborn:

I'm guessing the relay is worn out and needs to be replaced.

Funny thing is. The relay does not even control the GI. Since there is not even GI on P2k games. All lamps are matrix lamps.

The relay is just for the interlock system which turns off the HV (coil and flash lamp power) while the coin door is open.

Just had an update from the loom manufacturer. My shaker & knocker looms are complete and should be being delivered here tomorrow. All 100 of them

Are there even 100 RFMs out there
I guess they are all sold already?

#2942 4 years ago
Quoted from cougtv:

I bought a lot of pub cards before finding 1.9. I have never used 1.2. You kinda should have the ram upgrade after 1.6

RAM Update is not needed. Only for 1.8. But with 1.9 someone made changes which no longer need the larger ram. I am running 2.1 on original hardware with no problems

I know its been discussed a million times over i this thread but how is everyone finding old windows 98 laptops and pcs to do the 2.10 update??? i know you can rent the card with 1.6 but did all of you guys just have an old laptop ready to go in your closet?????

You don't need an old laptop. I am using my MacBook where I installed Windows 2000 via virtual box. I am using some adapter cables to connect to my RFM. USB to serial adaptor and of course a null modem cable. No problems it just works. You can install an old Windows version on any modern device via virtual box or different os emulation programs.

Picked up this HUO game. Unfortunately, even though it has HUO, it was also played A LOT. 8300 plays on it.
Cabinet is beautiful, but the playfield has wear on the green beam inserts and on the edges of several inserts. Nothing terrible, but I might look into fully restoring it some day.
Moved it in last night and already added the video amp this morning.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

8,3k plays for HUO compared to his age is not that much. My HUO(first owner) GB has around 6k plays.

How is it even possible to get a „3“ at the last digit is this some sort of JJP Easter egg? Happened twice on 2.23 code ‍♂️

So far I love the new update especially the new graphics. Those old text boxes just looked odd.
But has anyone else noticed, if the game gives out an Extra Ball for reaching XXX.XXX.XXX points. The game actually gives two instead of one Extra Ball? The Knocker does fire two times as well? I am running original hardware. I disabled Extra Balls for now, until it gets fixed. This might have something to do with the new Extra Ball animation. Maybe applejuice can look into this?

I have the exact same issue on my end, as well on original hardware - 2 extra balls instead of one, twice the knocker sound as well

Thanks for confirming! I am sure applejuice will make it right

I have to be honest with you... both of those look like crap. And the alignment is poor.

I agree with you. Although picture quality isn’t too bad, but the screen alignment is always crap. It’s like 19“ LCDs are to small.
