Quoted from MustangPaul:

Welcome to the club. I've never heard of a bg for RFM before, that's pretty cool. I wonder how rare that is?

I would say it’s very rare! It was given to me as a birthday gift by my pinball mentor. It’s one of only two that I know of.

#2302 5 years ago
Quoted from wayout440:

Is that actually screen printed on the glass? Post a picture of the back of it, please. It would look a lot different from a translite.

I did post a picture of it from the back along side the original translite. It’s on the right side in this picture. I believe it is screen printed on glass.

I’m not sure how it’s suppose to look like from behind but this is what it looks like lit up.

Screen printing shouldn't have horizontal lines across the reverse side. From the picture you posted, your looks like it does. I could be someone's attempt at a one-off. I've never seen a screened glass with those marks. It may be nothing, but is is highly unusual.

Either way, welcome to the club! It's an incredibly overlooked title based off of both the technology and the great integration of the theme with the game play. I prefer this to AFM. I had both and I sold the AFM.

Thanks! I can’t believe you actually sold AFM and kept RFM. AFM is a great pin! Don’t get me wrong, I love RFM.

Now there are 3 versions, original tl, 3d tl (which I have) and now the printed on glass. Crazy.

That 3-D translite is nice looking!

I think it's the best of all the different ones released so far.

[quoted image]

It should look similar to ones below if it was printed on glass. When I first brought my Taxi home years ago, I could have swore it was printed glass. As it turned out, the translite was so stuck to the glass that you couldn't hardly peel it back with a fingernail. But to me yours looks like it is neither a printed glass or translite, but some kind of a print perhaps. That would explain why it is so dark.

Had the same thing when I bought my Pinbot. I would have sworn it was a screen printed glass. Nope. Just a very nice translite really stuck to the glass.
I suspect that the one here is similar.
Very nice looking game though.
Congrats and welcome!

Nice!

Is this on top of the changes already in 1.9? Or is this a completely different branch of code?

#2316 5 years ago
Quoted from MustangPaul:

Wow that's really something but I have no idea how to install it.

Well, if original hardware, a Win XP, P2000 update manager and a serial port, otherwise if nucore, put the roms in the roms directory.
Will probably come with detailed instructions.

#2317 5 years ago
Quoted from applejuice:

*8Mb ram still needed if running original hardware, based on my own tests, as set from v1.8 onwards

I am quite sure that is not correct! Or did you changed? If so whats the reason?
That was temporarily for a high amount of scrolling tournamentplayers. It was decreased to factory RAM in >1.8 just because not to touch the Computer hardware...

#2318 5 years ago

Interesting point, would be great if it ran fine with 4MB...

and what is bad about less ram?? it's not like that type is hard to find.

Agreed; however, the POST is quite a bit longer with 8MB.

Is this real??!? Awesome!!! One more thing to look forward to on Christmas!

How often should you replace the watch battery ( CR2032 ) on the CPU mother board in the head ?

#2325 5 years ago
Quoted from bob_e:

A fresh battery should last at least 10 years. Note that there is also another coin cell battery on the Prism card (different size though; 2325).

Quoted from mattosborn:

I think I've seen that the prism card battery is difficult to get at. Any thoughts on how bad it is?

#2327 5 years ago
Quoted from RCA1:

you need to carefully separate the 2 halves of the prism card to remove and replace the battery. note that it is a BR2325 battery

#2328 5 years ago
Quoted from j_m_:

One thing you can do to make it easier the next time is reverse the battery holder so it is on the solder side. Then it is on the outside of the card, so you don’t have to separate the card again.

I sold my RFM to somebody who has it on location.
I never had this problem, but they say it's been rebooting on it's own occasionally.
It's all original hardware running version 1.6.
They are saying it's a software version issue.
Somebody else is saying it has to do with not enough RAM and the Martian Bowling mode.
I might have added some RAM back in the day...regardless they say they are getting this info from Pinside, but I have never heard of either of those explainations. And as I said I never had a problem, so I am skeptical it's a version 1.6 or not enough RAM issue.
I think more likely there might be a power supply voltage issue, over heating due to a bad fan, or cards/RAM/chips need to be reseated.
Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

The computer's power supply would be the first thing I'd look at.

It suddenly got quite during Mothership Multiball. First there were 2. I was trying to shot the right loop. This didn’t go well, so the third ball got stuck. I was then trying to shoot the left loop. To much pressure on me, I lost the fourth ball. Ended up opening the machine. After trying to shake them lose, wich ended up with tilt

Thanks for the reminder and thanks to applejuice for this xmas gift!

I'm still running 1.5 and have never updated before. Are there any additional memory requirements or other install needs if you're running with original or updated/pinbox hardware?

Thank you for the update!! Do you have any instructions on how to update? Also, are there any adjustments in settings to add saucer light award back to stroke of luck?

#2336 5 years ago

Tried connecting the Williams update software to an HP Pinbox through the com port. No success. I would think the Williams software would not work with the Pinbox since the software I believe is written in Unix? Please let me know if a process is known to update the software with Pinbox installed. Thanks Apple Juice.

Edit :

Apple Juice thanks for the reply. After creating the post here I tried to do exactly what you said, I booted into Umbuntu and copied the folders manually over to the RFM15 folder from a memory stick of the unzipped updated files. When trying to reboot after the copy it seems the system would lock up and go no further from the screen of which table to choose (RFM or Star Wars). I had an image saved of the game so I am reloading the image back to the drive. I will just wait until you create some instructions. Thanks Jim, have a great holiday.

#2337 5 years ago

The Pinball 2000 Updatemanager is of course not for Pinbox!

Normally you need to put the update on an USB thumbdrive and load it in Nucoremenu.

#2338 5 years ago

I’ll create some instructions for updating pinbox on my site when I get some time, not sure yet when as on hols over Christmas, though it’s pretty simple. You just update the rfm15 update folder with the new files from the extracted update zip

Original games update in the same way as originally

EDIT :

I also tried executing the downloadable EXE into Unbutu using Wine. Wine is a program used in Unbutu to run .exe files from windows. I extracted all the files into the RFM_15 folder replacing the two files that were already in the folder. I believe it's 8 files all together. I also tried unzipping the .exe in Windows and copying over the files to the RFM_15 folder. When I turn on the RFM pinball machine it still comes up as version 1.6. I do not know if you need to be at 1.8 before the update? The 1.8 roms are in the folder of my game, but shows as 1.6. Just a heads up.

For everyone else running on original hardware I’ll create an tutorial video. How to update. I’ll also include some troubleshooting if things go wrong.

#2341 5 years ago

Updated to 2.0 last night. Very nice! Thanks!

#2342 5 years ago

I updated my machine to 1.6 when I first got it but I think I used an old pc that I no longer have ..

#2343 5 years ago

Has anyone had any luck running the updater in an emulator running XP under Ubuntu? I've got a Windows 10 dual-boot, but that's about as far back as I can go with "real" windows.

This is the first time I feel like I've got a good reason to update past 1.5!

#2344 5 years ago

2.0, that's great! had someone ask me about 1.9 recently and I had no idea what he was talking about.
Thanks applejuice looking forward to trying it out.

If you happen to fix P2K star wars some how, I will be amazed .

For all of you that are struggling with updating the software, you don't need an old machine for that. It easily can be done using e.g. Windows 7 or 10, see the links bellow:

https://brianpeek.com/pinball-2000-software-update-with-windows-7-x64/
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/updating-pin2k-rfm-swep1-code-with-win-78-no-serial-port

Let's thank Brian Peek to make this all possible.

I used the command line method to update to 1.5 not too long ago and it worked well. Using the same method to update to 2.0, fails every time. I think the system doesn't have enough memory and that's what's causing it to not respond & fail.

Notes for updating pinbox systems (I will update these notes and add to my site as time allows. Please read carefully)

On a computer of your choice extract the files within the update exe (This is a basic zip file)

There are 6 files:

pin2000_50070_0200_bootdata.rom
pin2000_50070_0200_game.rom
pin2000_50070_0200_im_flsh0.rom
pin2000_50070_0200_pubboot.rom
pin2000_50070_0200_sf.rom
pin2000_50070_0200_symbols.rom

Copy the files to a spare usb drive

On your rfm pinbox computer, Navigate to folder /root/pinbox/update/rfm_15/ (either by logging into lxdm, or from command line, or using ssh/sftp etc)

Delete or move ALL the existing files within this folder

Copy the new files to this folder. Only the files, no additional folders.

Make sure the update.bin file from the original installation of pinbox is deleted/moved. This will be recreated from the new update files

Move/delete rfm_15.nvram* files from /root/pinbox/roms/savedata/ These files store the settings and high score data but may stop the update if not deleted/moved first.

Reboot the rfm computer

Enjoy v2.0 game code on pinbox

This worked well on my Pinbox system and will attempt the same procedure on Nucore soon.

Thanks!

This process worked on the Pinbox system. I will post a video shortly with the instructions visually.
