Rob replaced the chip, ram, and the update software... Did a burn in for a day.

Thank God I shipped it next day air or those ham fisted fk tards at UPS would have had that computer for a least a week longer... prob be nothing left of it by now hahahahaa.

#1903 6 years ago

Quoted from j_m_:

correction, never, ever toss your CRT <period>
there are many people in the community that can breath new life (myself included) using the proper tube from a 19" tv. not any tube will work, but based on the impedance of the horizontal and vertical guns, a like or near compatible tube from an older television can restore an arcade machine or in this case, a pinball 2000, CRT
plus, if there is an issue with the existing tube, it's much easier (and safer) to ship without that big, glass brick saving the cathode ray tube's yoke and rings will allow nearly any television tube to be used

This x 100 MILLION!!!! I have done tube swaps on supposedly "trashed and broken" CRTs. Rebuild the chassis and HV. Viola! Essentially a brand new monitor. Though its getting harder and harder to find donor TVs for tubes now.

#1909 6 years ago

Robo,
I have a broken neck on my "now backup" CRT for this beast.
I'd love to buy a "known good" CRT from someone so I could tube swap and get the back up working.
Any interest in helping me source a donor tube?

Look on CL, LetItGo, etc. for 19" RCA or Westinghouse TVs that were made in the 80s to mid 90s. The odds are high that the tube from the TV will work. Stay away from Japanese brands, particularly Sony, as I've never found any that were compatible. For reference, the swaps I do are in GO7 and WG 46xx series monitors.

Thickness should be 1/8.

Correction, thickness is 3/16. Sorry about that.

Nice, just got my new glass today and the new trans looks Fabulous

your gonna have to tell me what your running in that thing, I bought a couple of pc's to make a back up for mine, but have been to busy playing the snot out of it to mess with it yet

#1916 6 years ago

I know it's a little off topic but still somewhat related - has there ever been an interest in a Star Wars: Episode I thread, or is this pretty much the de facto Pinball 2000 club thread?

#1917 6 years ago
Quoted from alexmogil:

Star Wars: Episode I thread, or is this pretty much the de facto Pinball 2000 club thread?

I just think no one has created one.
I don't own SWEP1... so have no real interest.

I've been thinking the same thing. I only follow this thread for Pin2k related stuff. I own a SWEP1. I don't think it gets a lot of love from the community, maybe we should start a club!

I own RFM and just played SWE01 yesterday ad friend's home, I love that pin ! I do not understand all the SWE01 haters, perhaps it's too easy, but my son told me that we got absolutely to get one. I like it, yes I do, I played it a lot and did enjoy, and I know hardcore pinheads do not like it but it definitively deserves more love and attention. I want one.

#1920 6 years ago

I owned a SWE1 for several years (where it sat beside my RFM). I thought it was a lot of fun. Friendly to the novice, but plenty of challenge for the good players as well. Achieving Jedi Master is not an easy task.

Truth. I still haven't gotten there, and now that my game is on factory settings and only one extra ball, I can barely make it past 2 Jedi battles.

#1922 6 years ago

The stigma from the movie is why SwE1 doesn't get any respect. The game plays just fine.

#1923 6 years ago

I own both Pin2k machines and love them both. Such a fanboy of the concept I contacted the director of Tilt and he sent me an autographed movie poster. Really a shame we didn't get Wizard Blocks, but happy that they at least tried something different. Nice to see Al Warner in this thread as well, big fan of Pins n Vids!

#1924 6 years ago

Considering a RFM. Found one in great condition looks to be home use only . I've only played a couple games but it looks like fun . My two questions are... with the monitor are they reliable serviceable and are parts available? I have read about the recapping. And a question probably been asked many times..... why don't people like the game as much as other pinball machines ? I guess its the monitor- the shorter Playfield - and it's not like other pinball machines . Other people I know said I'll get tired of it quickly...but it looks to be a great game. Wanting to buy it .. just afraid to pull the trigger.

#1925 6 years ago

It's like all games-when yo play it a lot you will tire it's normal.
I didn't play mine for about 3-4 months and decided to sell it these days. But when I switched it on and play, you know I think to not sell it for now.
It's not short game.It take normal time to go to wizard mode.I can say even it's not so easy.
But I like space themes and may be this tell me to hold it.Solid game from Williams.
If you have problem with PC or monitor you can always pinbox it with LCD monitor and you are in the game again.I like it's compact size.

#1926 6 years ago
Quoted from mtbpinball:

- the shorter Playfield -

Common misconception (likely due to the shorter cabinet size). Yes, the playfield is a couple inches shorter than a modern Stern. But it is also longer than many, including Williams System 11 (which no one would call “short”).
Here’s a good list of playfield sizes: http://pinballmakers.com/wiki/index.php/Playfield_Sizes

WPC (Through 1987)

Uuh.. When, exactly, do they think WPC (originally WPC-89) came out?

Yeah, looks like they pulled that data (and the WPC date error) from this thread: http://www.vpforums.org/index.php?showtopic=2762
I think it's safe to say that WPC playfield length is generally 46".

I'm trying to come up with ideas, so give me a little time. I'd like to have a thread though. It's worth it if only to pay a little respect to the last Williams pinball game.

I think it requires a null serial cable and an XP computer.
Otherwise; you'll need the update card which Borygard probably has.

Does it have more call outs and music or different rules? Thanks!

#1943 6 years ago

1.6 was the last official release. 1.7 and 1.8 were hacks to participate in their tournament server.

#1944 6 years ago

My machine is running version 1.5, is it worth upgrading to 1.6 or is not really much changed?

#1945 6 years ago
Quoted from TigerLaw:

My machine is running version 1.5, is it worth upgrading to 1.6 or is not really much changed?

Not worth upgrading from 1.50:

Version: 1.60 - SEP 22 2003
(Changes From 1.50)

Incorporate the final version of XINA (1.19) which fixes the problem
where booting the system with the power driver board disconnected
can cause factory reset to occur due to the mismatch of the last
country dipswitch setting in CMOS vs. the country setting for
an open power driver board cable.

Hoping someone can help guide me in the right direction. I have a SWE1 with a bad monitor. I want to build a Nucore or Pinbox computer to switch out the original computer and upgrade the monitor to a led lcd monitor. I have read a lot of posts about the good and the bad of each software but the installation is very confusing and cannot be found all in one place. I currently have a suitable computer to use. I have Ubuntu 8.04 LTS installed on it. I have the original install disk from Nucore from when I’m told it used a license USB key. I have the new free upgrade version 2.25. What I do not know is how to make it all work without the USB key. If someone knows how to do this, help would be appreciated. I do not have any of the pinbox software, I’m told this would make things a lot easier to install. If there is another forum that has this information please point me in the right direction. Thanks.

#1947 6 years ago

Good luck finding info on nucore, they are not really communicating people..
Pinbox can be found on torrent sites, it's an old system, some Linux tricks have to be done and you can find them on pinside..
Give a try, and ping me if you fail (only after having really tried )

Much less work and hassle to just repair or replace the monitor.

#1949 6 years ago

Frankly, if your computer is working, i would go the lcd way while keeping the original computer. Cost is 15 bucks for the conversion card and 50 for the monitor..

#1950 6 years ago

Again, please don't trash the CRT if you go the LCD route.
Offer it locally ... or even here on Pinside so we can save the tube for future needs.
