Quoted from slochar:It's OK if you would need to get up to speed on the environment. Since I'm already familiar with it it's a lot easier for me.
No need to be rude btw. Not everyone is in things for money only. Also when you don't charge you can set your own timeline. I find money being the end result of all interactions tedious. Maybe what he wants done is too much... Maybe it isn't. Like you said, you value your time more. I value my satisfaction more, and my own knowledge furthering.
Fwiw I responded to him in the original thread he asked before he posted he wanted to pay... I guess he didn't see it there.
Not all interactions are about money, but why am I going to spend my time on someone else's passion project? I can further my knowledge wor king on my own projects. If this were all about money I would not be in the habit of resurrecting machines which have been parted out. Currently a silverball, black hole, and Bally Star Trek. It doesn't pay, but I get satisfaction from it.
Congrats on enjoying doing your good deed. It's not unreasonable for someone to be paid for work. You don't ask a mechanic to do things in the side for next to nothing. The same goes of any other profession. After a long day of staring at a screen some of us desire to do something else unless we are compensated accordingly.
