I locked the guide in some vice grips with one hand. Then I slipped this tapper tool through the bottom and rocked the post back in forth until the lip straightened out. Actually, the lip actually broke off.. but enough of the neck was left on the spacer to be usable still.

Looks like your method worked just fine. There’s a guide on Cliffy’s site that recommends using a file. I did it that way and it also works. Just another option.
