Is there a way to get these metal spacers off this lane frame in order to apply them to my new cliffy version?

Do I need to drill them out?

I re-used mine from plastics they were attached to but not metal, i heated up the metal thimble enough with a tiny torch and the metal warmed up the plastic to release it, but i'm way off point for your needs. Hmm, i wouldn't drill them, but maybe tap them out backwards? I'm sure someone has had this issue before.

The only thing I can think of is to drill them out, then secure them with screws (not sure what kind) to the new guides. I've seen that done before in a couple restoration threads.

Time consuming. I'd take a screw driver with the metal part all the way through the handle. Secure the old guide. And gently tap around the perimeter of the top part where it's rolled over until you have it straight up again. Then when it falls out, place in the new guide. And peen the edges back down again.

Exactly what I was thinking! (But I was trying to find the old thread around here about that first

Thanks for the tips. I don’t know if my solution was as elegant but it worked.

I locked the guide in some vice grips with one hand. Then I slipped this tapper tool through the bottom and rocked the post back in forth until the lip straightened out. Actually, the lip actually broke off.. but enough of the neck was left on the spacer to be usable still.

Looks like your method worked just fine. There’s a guide on Cliffy’s site that recommends using a file. I did it that way and it also works. Just another option.

Oh, cool! Filing would have been another good option.
