Is there a way to clean or paint a lockdown bar receiver to look close to original? I have replacement labels.

Couldn’t really find anything existing on here or the web.

I’m cleaning up a JD and the lockdown bar is badly stained with some minor rust.

Not sure what kind of coating/plating is used on these but it diesn’t look like it can be sanded like stainless.

I should be just steel, unless someone else did work on it.

I usually soak them in evaporust and/or attack them with steel wool. Then I'll polish it if I really want it looking nice.

I just used steel wool on one yesterday, not perfect, but looks decent.

I use these myself. Makes quick work of it. Then some elbow grease with some scotchbrite, wet sand and polish.

Great, thanks for the advise. I just got done refinishing it. Came out pretty good. Used a red scotch bright pad and fine sanding block.

I'm hoping you cleared it. If you didn't, it will eventually start showing corrosion.

No, but now I will. Thanks.
