    Quoted from HeyYou:

The machinist can drill the hole, but creating a hole with the ridge at the end doesn't seem possible without a mold.

Bore the shaft hole into the knob.

Then drill a small hole in the knob, intersecting the shaft hole.

Tap a roll pin through the small hole.

Now you have a "ridge" at the end of the knob and the shaft can't slip.

(I'd probably put a set screw somewhere near the base of the knob, too)

Did you re-rivet the drop targets? or stick it over them?

Great idea but I didn't mention one other aspect of the knob that didn't seem important enough to mention. There is hole in the knob that the mounting screw passes through. The end of the shaft has a threaded hole that runs down the center of the shaft. A screw passes through the knob into the threaded hole in the shaft.

I appreciate the suggestions, but I think at this point taking a few photos are in order. I have something that I have to do tonight so the photos might not get posted tonight. We'll see.

Thanks again for the suggestions. I really do appreciate them.

I seem to recall that I found screws with no slots or phillips. Kind of like a carriage bolt. I would have to go look to be certain, but that's what I recall.
