Cabinet cleaned up pretty well. Touched up a few more noticeable scratches then waxed the whole thing. The screen printed artwork is in fantastic shape.
The bottom was flaking quite a bit so i just sheared off a tiny bit so the edges are nice and crisp.
Thanks Dirk.
Quoted from Deez:Awesome work. Love seeing this level of detail in saving an old classic.
Doh! No way, I had no idea. Thanks Kenny
Quoted from creepykenny:hey Dan, looking good, you might want to pull those pedals back out and straighten them before you call it a day - they should be flat not curved, which was caused by years of people smashing their foots on them
i beat mine back flat with a hammer before they were powder coated
keep the pictures coming!
Kenny
Thanks guys! It really is a neat game. The art package is one of my top 10 all time favorites. It reminds me of the kind of stuff i drew as a kid at school and church
Yeah, i got lucky on the cabinet, its in pretty good shape considering its age and milage. I've definitely had much worse to work with.
Quoted from Gryszzz:MAN yer work is top notch.
The art on this is amazing. Looks like you found a pretty nice example to start with congrats.
Thanks, i've got that covered
Got the interface board, switching power supply and the FPGA Terasic board programmed and ready to go in. Really looking forward to getting Alley Rally too.
Quoted from fuko:Looking good, your cabinet was in stellar shape.
Are you aware of the Death Race FPGA project over at KLOV? It's currently playing Death Race + Destruction Derby, plus he's adding support for Alley Rally.
https://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=410548
It's very well done, and has a clean install so you can keep things original (although I recommend a switching PS). Pretty much a must have for any Death Race owner. I know you may be done with KLOV, so let me know if you want me to connect you with the guy who's doing it.
Its just resting there now, it gets stapled to the control panel.
Quoted from creepykenny:is that bottom piece of aluminum bezel trim stapled in of just left floating ?
Still tracking down some weird capacitors for the monitor chassis. But when that’s done it will be easy to wrap this project up.
Its ALIVE!
Caps replace on Monitor Chassis.
Running the Terasic board off a switching power supply. It plays Death Race, Destruction Derby and soon it will play Alley Rally!
Buddy of mine is looking at the original power supply and when thats working i'll stick that in the cabinet with the original PCB. Just so that all the original equipment is there if i ever sell it down the road.
Your very welcome Lloyd
As my #1 fan and for all your help in this and other communities i'm giving you a lifetime VIP pass to my place once it opens.
Quoted from LTG:Amazing. Thank you for doing and sharing !
LTG : )
No way, i didn't know there was one at the Santa Cruz boardwalk. I took a group of scouts there awhile back, must have been gone by then. I wonder how rusty it got being so close to the beach.
Good luck on your search. Prices keep going up. Last few on Ebay were in the $3500+ range.
Quoted from Brian541:That game has been on my wish list for a long time.Looking good!Played one on the santa cruz beach boardwalk years ago and got to see one again this last year in san francisco.Hope to own one someday for my arcade!
Thanks! Agreed. Lots of rare games aren't fun but this one definitely is.
Quoted from xsvtoys:What a cool machine. Its a rare one, a fun to play piece of nostalgia, and the restoration is awesome. So dang shiny, better than new!
Thanks guys!!
Quoted from seshpilot:Awesome!
Quoted from nman:Great looking machine! Very nice work!
Quoted from hAbO:Bad ass old school game. Phenomenal work.
Will get the original power supply back in a few days. Once thats installed this will be 100% done and have the option of using the original setup or the FPGA setup.
Attached.
Quoted from creepykenny:two questions .... is that aluminum strip attached to the control panel or just loose?
where did you find the start button?
thanks

Used the original.
Do you have pix of the mod you did for the shifter?
Quoted from creepykenny:question ..... what did you do for the accelerator pedal springs that look suspiciously like a screen door spring ? reuse the old ones or were you able to find a source for new ones - i looked all over the place and never found anything close to what i have as originals
also, i installed a return spring on the shift levers to keep them pulled into the forward position - this works much better than the lockball thing originally used - found pictures of this mod some where on the webs and its a good thing
Same way I find all this weird, rare crap. Luck. Oh and an exhaustive search of the internet
Quoted from xsvtoys:Wait, what?!?! A marine boat RV pushbutton switch? How the heck did you even find that???
Ah, very cool. Thanks.
Quoted from creepykenny:if you look closely in these you can see the spring - zip tied to the shift lever & an eyescrew attached to the wooden control panel - these are to only ones i currently have of it since this was my back-up control panel & it was sold
