No way, i didn't know there was one at the Santa Cruz boardwalk. I took a group of scouts there awhile back, must have been gone by then. I wonder how rusty it got being so close to the beach.

Good luck on your search. Prices keep going up. Last few on Ebay were in the $3500+ range.

    Quoted from Brian541:

That game has been on my wish list for a long time.Looking good!Played one on the santa cruz beach boardwalk years ago and got to see one again this last year in san francisco.Hope to own one someday for my arcade!

Thanks! Agreed. Lots of rare games aren't fun but this one definitely is.

Found out that the start button wasn't original (Atari volcano) so i tracked down the correct button.

    $11. Looks a lot better.

Will get the original power supply back in a few days. Once thats installed this will be 100% done and have the option of using the original setup or the FPGA setup.

two questions .... is that aluminum strip attached to the control panel or just loose?

where did you find the start button?

    thanks

question ..... what did you do for the accelerator pedal springs that look suspiciously like a screen door spring ? reuse the old ones or were you able to find a source for new ones - i looked all over the place and never found anything close to what i have as originals

also, i installed a return spring on the shift levers to keep them pulled into the forward position - this works much better than the lockball thing originally used - found pictures of this mod some where on the webs and its a good thing

Looks great. Classic game that upset the video industry with its theme.

The controls are super smooth. Plays like new.

    Bad ass.

    #74 6 years ago

Wait, what?!?! A marine boat RV pushbutton switch? How the heck did you even find that???

    #75 6 years ago

    Used the original.

Do you have pix of the mod you did for the shifter?

Same way I find all this weird, rare crap. Luck. Oh and an exhaustive search of the internet

if you look closely in these you can see the spring - zip tied to the shift lever & an eyescrew attached to the wooden control panel - these are to only ones i currently have of it since this was my back-up control panel & it was sold

That is so beautiful. Such great work. Do you still have this gem?

Incredible restoration! This was one of those games that I remember seeing in the arcade game tent at the county fair when I was little and for me the artwork really stood out. When I built my MAME cabinet and was working on collecting the games, I was disappointed that this game was not an option due to not being a program on a chip. I was delighted when I found that someone had recreated a PC version of the game that I was able to include on the cabinet. Currently I am just using an Xarcade tankstick with a trackball for controls but someday I want to build a driving cabinet with two wheels to play this as well as Championship Sprint, Badlands, Off Road, etc. and would like to duplicate one of these cabinets or at least incorporate the graphics.
