I'm working on restoring a 1969 Chicago Coin Pirate Gold that has seen better days. I thought that I'd post here how I redid the shooter guide to bring it back to new life. The arpon will be much the same.

The original guide was trashed with rust and chipping. I wire brushed off all of the rust and used a high build auto primer topped with white primer to restore the surface to like new. I then used a scan that I had made of the guide that I had cleaned up in Photoshop and then imported into Cricut Design Space for cutting a vinyl mask layer. That was applied to the shooter guide and I mixed blue and white Createx Paint to the right shade of blue as well as black right out of the bottle to paint the graphics onto the shooter guide. The mask was removed and the end result is really nice. I'll shoot the entire guide with clear coat when I get out my sprayer for clear coating the playfield after that is restored.

Yes, the stencils come off in pieces so they are not reusable. Getting the stencil onto the apron was tricky because it is pretty large for a single person to maneuver into place. What I ended up doing was I took a piece of plexiglas that I had laying around and taped the stencil onto it. That way the stencil stayed flat in one plane and I could set up one edge so that it was square to the apron so that the stencil did not go down on an angle.

I was also surprised at how well the lettering turned out as well. I was too lazy to get out the airbrush and compressor for this so I just brushed on the Createx paint and called it good.

Yes I plan to try out some playfield lettering on Pirate Gold so we'll see how that works out.

The scan should be 1to1 scale and I do my editing in Photoshop via PDF so there is no scaling but the Cricut Design Space (CDS) software won't accept PDFs. I changed to BMP and that messed with the scale but because I knew the PDF size I was able to resize the art in CDS to match and that worked out well.

This is the first that I've tried this so this post contains the sum total of my experience so we'll see if there are any pit falls...
