Hi Pinside,

Just wanted to share a minor restoration I recently completed on my FIRST EM! Here's a quick before an after picture to get us started:

beforeAfter-134.jpgbeforeAfter-134.jpg

...but what I'd really like to do is direct you to my website post where I meticulously documented this process:

...from the quality products at PBR (Thanks, Steve!):

...to masking:

...more masking:

...my first adventures in airbrushing:

...un-masking:

...and finally stepping back to admire the fruits of my labor:

Believe it or not, these images are not even 1/4 of the pictures I posted on my website. I've really enjoyed the restoration threads on pinside and I've learned a TON from them. This is just my attempt to give back a little as well.

Thanks and take care, guys!

Quoted from terryb:

Hey Ryan, great job. I would recommend anyone interested goes to your website and gets all the details on how you did this.

Thanks, Terry! I really appreciate that coming from you, as your website is really an asset to the hobby.

Quoted from terryb:

I use liquid frisket quite a bit and was not aware of the eraser thing for removing it. I think a trip to the hobby shop is needed.

Here's a link to the "Rubber Cement Eraser" I mentioned:

Quoted from tamoore:

Fantastic job!

Thanks a bunch, Todd!!! Nice seein' you around these parts.

Quoted from jrpinball:

Super job on those caps! The color match is dead on perfect.

Thanks so much, Jr. I was kind of a stickler about it.

Quoted from jrpinball:

I would have added a dab of yellow to the white for those lane guides though.

Really? I kind of like the gleaming-white look. I know it doesn't quite match the antiqued playfield, though. ...maybe you have a point.

Quoted from jrpinball:

Did you clear coat those as well? They take a lot more contact with the ball than the caps do.

Aw, man, NO! I got so excited to put everything back together and clean-up my mess that I totally forgot to clear the lane-guides. Not even joking. Just noticed today that the sides of one is starting to take a beating. Gonna have to pull those, sand a bit, repaint, and re-clear. Maybe that will be an excuse to SLIGHTLY antique that color.

Thanks for all the comments, guys!
