What can I replace a 4ohm 7w ceramic resistor with. The one under my playfield has been soldered together on one end. Keeps coming undone and my back box flashers stop working. Trying to see if I can find something at a local store to save shipping costs. Most places online charge a standard shipping fee for something that can be mailed with a stamp on an envelope. Lol The resistor works but I want to replace it.

You can go higher wattage, but the resistance should probably stay the same

4ohm 10W ceramic resistor. Those are much more commonly available, but it's unlikely that a local shop would carry something like that unless they specialize in electronics.

Fwiw, for small one off orders I tend to just use a certain auction site.

Then maybe on my next big electronics order I add some to it

This is the one I was able to find. I knew you could put a higher one in as long as it was close. Just wasn't sure if it was ohms or watts that could be different. Thanks once again everyone. The info is greatly appreciated.

ebay is always my first go to place

ebay.com link: 4Pcs Gold Tone Aluminum Housed Wirewound Resistors 10 Watt 4 Ohm 5

these are better then the ceramics for heat dissipation

I don't believe that would work under my playfield. Nowhere to mount to. I could screw it to the underside somewhere and then run wires over to where it's needed. I got some ceramic resistors coming from Amazon... Gotta love free shipping with prime lol.

Or here -- Get 10 of them for about the same delivered price:

that looks like a good site , how are their shipping costs

Depends on order -
Shipping not built into price of parts like Amazon.
Shipping weight based on weight of parts plus 4 oz (box).
Estimated cost through USPS based on weight + $1 insurance per $100 + $0.50 handling fee to partially cover Paypal fees

For ten of these resistors:
$4.50 parts
$6.10 shipping (first class to middle of US)
Total for order including shipping = 10 for $10.60 or $1.06 per resistor.

Total for Amazon = 5 for $10 or $2.00 per resistor (cannot compete with their 1 or 2 day delivery time)

Total for Parts Express = 10 for $13.75 or $1.38 per resistor

Total for Mouser = 10 for $14.45 or $1.45 per resistor

Cannot compare to the Chinese version on ebay with their subsidized pricing and shipping.
