So last night my Whitewater reset several times, before the boot process even finished. I shut it off until this morning when I could take a closer look.

This morning, same thing - several resets, either during the boot process, or immediately after a successful boot. The weird thing is, I seem to have a kahr.us card installed, which I had no recollection of ever purchasing or installing. Digging through my email history it appears I did purchase one back in 2017 (found a little thread with Rob where I was trying to figure out a PayPal issue with the purchase, even). So apparently at one point I *was* having reset issues with this machine, which I have apparently blacked out.

Leaving the machine alone for a few minutes, it finished booting, and has allowed me to play several games with no further resetting issues.

So, a few questions:

1) Most likely issue with the resets currently - thermistor?
2) Are the evil spirits responsible for the resets also responsible for wiping my memory of past problems & the kahr purchase?
3) How bad *were* the prior reset issues, if my subconscious has completely blacked out the prior experience? What sort of pain am I opening myself up to here?
4) Should I be stocking up on beer, or something stronger like whiskey, as I prepare to dive in here?

Well, you kicked the can down the road and made it 7 years. Now it's time to fix it up.

The Kahr board is a clever band-aid but, a Band-Aid nevertheless. Something is likely wrong with your driver board (bad caps, voltage regulator and / or headers). That really needs to be addressed. You also my have bad pins plugged into the Kahr board (or somewhere else in the game).

Time to repair that Driver Board

Several knowledge techs here on the forum advise against using the bandaid Kahr board. If your pinball machine is resetting itself, it was trying to tell you that you had a serious problem. Then you moved that problem to another area and have finally messed up that area too. I admit to owning 2 of those boards. Yes they kick the problem down the road. Yes it is cheaper in the short term than replacing major boards or having them actually repaired. Your time is up, pay the piper.

There are numerous reasons for a WPC game to reset. Let’s get you started in the right direction.

Surf on over to this link. Do some reading. Get your meter out and perhaps a crimp tool. Follow the disciplined process to uncover the root cause.

Let us know how it goes. I guarantee that following this process will uncover the issue.

And, you don’t need to heat the iron at all until well into the process.

The Kahr board really should be used as an emergency band-aid to get you through until you can fix the board. The Kahr is not a fix as some people think. If you have connector issues at J101 or a bad power box thermistor, the Kahr board can't compensate for that. Time to pull out the driver board and systematically go through and fix the issues.
