I just picked up a gottlieb rescue 911 and am trying to put it on free play, when I put the tournament switch to on nothing happens almost like the switch isn't working, am I doing something wrong. I have done this to other system 3 games with no problems, any suggestions will help, Thanks Bill

Mine doesn’t work either. I’m just using coins temporarily until I track down the issue. Think it’s something to do with the coin door as whole game turns off when I open coin door.

    Quoted from Jmckune:

whole game turns off when I open coin door.

That's caused by the interlock switch. It's normal for gottlieb system 3 games.

You can pull out the stopper on the switch to turn the game on while the coin door is open. Or, unscrew and rotate the switch and leave the stopper pulled out so it doesn't get turned off when opening the coin door.

    To enable free play:

If the switch isn't enabling free play, use a multimeter on the switch's solder points to check if the switch is actually closing the connection.

I checked the switch with a multimeter already and it is working right and as far as the interlock switch I had it pulled out so the machine would stay on while trying to put it in tournament. Could it be in the cpu itself I am not real familiar on system 3 games.

What is supposed to happen when you switch the tournament switch to on? When I flick mine between on and off nothing happens, however the volume knob and test button appear to operate normal, am I supposed to find free play In one of the adjustments?

Are all of your other switches working? A failure in another switch may cause the tournament switch not to work. Check here for more info: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/cant-enter-tournament-mode-on-stargate-gottlieb-system-3

As far as I can tell all other switches are working. When I hit the test button it says something like “memory... OK”. I also don’t recall a credit dot or hitting something that didn’t activate. I don’t recall seeing a credit dot but I’ll check tomorrow. It’s crazy how different this is from my Williams pins which I can pretty much guess the issue right off the bat. Those even tell me if something is wrong more effectively.

I found the problem, a wire that was daisy chained to the tournament switch was broke, I soldered it back and everything is perfect.
