Bally, 1993I am considering replacing the playfield in my TZ and am interested in the collective experience with or opinions about the reproduction playfields that might be available. I located and can purchase the Mirco (High Class Pinballs) reproduction playfield but believe there may be other options (IPB and/or CPR). Would you have the playfield (re)clearcoated? I appreciate any experience or advice you are willing to provide.
If you end up doing it, I have a dust-free Mirco I handpicked at Expo with mini pf, full set of cabinet decals and a main ramp (plastic) I'm not going to use. I was going to restore mine but ended up selling it. PM me if you're interested.
I redid my MM with the Mirco pf and it went perfectly.
Depending on the condition of your original, I would think about sending it to one of the well known restorers here. Nothing beats a nice clearcoated PF and you don't have to worry about all the issues you get with a repro PF.
Many of the repros are not accurately dimpled and some are not completely drilled. You almost always have to make some adjustments as you install the hardware. When you have one restored, you know it's properly set up as it's the one you took out. No fitment issues except sometimes having to open up some holes for clearance due to clearcoat. Good thing.
