Planning on doing a full T2 cabinet restoration (chrome edition) with new playfield chrome hardware/ramps etc. . . My question is I’ve seen some that get NEW playfields clearcoated prior to installation. Thoughts/opinions?
    Thanks!

manufacturers don't want p/f to last forever . they clear just enough to look good .i just got a cpr gold TAF board , and that's how it was . just enough to look ok . you could see slight ripples in clearcoat of screening color underneath . 6 coats of auto clear on top , its now like a mirror and will outlast standard clear 10 fold. photo after my clear.off the gun, not buffed yet!! my opinion . remember opinions are like belly buttons . we all have one , but they don't hold much water

I agree on one thing. The companies cheaped out of clear coat when they were new because as you say, they did not want them to last. CPR and others cheap out not because they want them to fail and try to sell you another 20 years from now, but they simply want to get them out as fast as they can. They know they're playfields are not going on routed games, but into collectors basements.

When buying an aftermarket playfield I'm absolutely 1000% set on sending it to Kruzman to get a proper clear job. Not to mention the last 2 playfields I purchased weren't dimpled correctly or missing dimples (one was a NOS pf!). In my opinion CPR "gold standard" means jack shit. Same problem with dimples off or missing. That's why I pay someone to do pf swaps. Apparently none of them are plug and play. Since these playfields are CNC cut, for the life of me why are they not drilled out is beyond me. Big deal if you have to potentially knock out clear coat from a hole. /shrug

CPR playfields usually have plenty of clear coat. I usually wet sand and buff/polish them and they come out like glass.

If the registration is bad or the black insert lines aren’t good, send it out.
