Anyone else get a "sold out" for Pinburgh already? I was on exactly at 11 AM central.

    #39 6 years ago

Was anyone actually successful in getting a Pinburgh ticket?

    #52 6 years ago

ninjadoug - Can you shed some light on what the story is for Pinburgh tickets?

    #58 6 years ago
    Quoted from ninjadoug:

All the tickets were in the checkout process about 30-45 seconds after they went on sale. So the site lists them as sold out.
If someone cancels the checkout process, or payment fails those are released back into the available pool.
We are not releasing tickets in batches, they all went on sale at noon today. If you still want in, join the waitlist. There will be some cancellations.

When will the waitlist be updated on the website? It would be nice to know approximately where everyone is slated in the waitlist for determining to take a chance on selecting vacation days, hotel reservations, travel arrangements, etc.

How often does the wait list get updated? It seems there are people on the wait list that already have tickets.

    Quoted from HoneyBadger:

Ok I am furious Doug! This is complete BS that you guys say everybody has the same fair chance at getting tickets and you guys pre sell them to groups?!?!? Someone like me who has attended every Pinburgh since the inception of the tournament cannot get in because I was a few minutes late logging on. How is that fair when I have supported your event every year since the beginning and now I’m shut out and groups of people some of whom who have never supported you get to buy their tickets early and get in. Are you freaking kidding me!!! The ONLY way to make this right in my opinion is to expand the field this year to let everyone in on the waitlist! You guys show no loyalty whatsoever. I am so mad right now!

I don't think getting mad at Doug is fair or productive. Doug has been very open and responsive on this thread, despite getting quite a bit of heat and the fact that he didn't make many of the decisions. Remember, Doug is a real person helping to run a pinball tournament. I'm in the same boat and am on the wait list. I've had some time to digest the situation and have a few thoughts/concerns, coming from a place of frustration as I do enjoy attending Pinburgh.

    1. Is there a way to have previous attendees get first chance at tickets? With the show adding spots each year, it still allows new attendees.

    2. Only allow one ticket to be bought rather than five. It sounds like only a small percentage of tickets were multiple purchases, but it still has an impact. The argument that it affects groups of people doesn't hold water as most people attending go with a group. Two of the five of us planning on going didn't get tickets. For next year, everyone will be putting as many tickets as they can in their basket to make sure their friends can attend too, just making it worse.

    3. The fifteen minute timeout on Showclix - can this be changed so that people on the waitlist get the opportunity to get tickets? I was on the wait list less than five minutes after selling out, yet people were getting tickets after that point by luckily hitting the refresh button on their computer.

    4. League/bar ticket purchases - now that the cat is out of the bag that some organizations can pre-buy Pinburgh tickets, there is going to be requests like this from every league/barcade around. I'd suggest just cutting this out altogether for the future.

    5. Possibly use IFPA rankings for a block of tickets - As this is billed as the largest pinball tournament, it should have the top players. What if Keith Elwin or a Sharpe missed out? I'd have a hard time believing they'd be left out.

I'm sure things will be adjusted for next year. Maybe even some position spots will be added for this year, although that may be hopeful thinking.

Thanks for having the wait list updated.

I'm moving on up (humming Jeffersons theme song)

    #259 6 years ago
    Quoted from Eightball88:

Looking forward to seeing movement on the wait list. It has not moved since the initial update to remove duplicate names.
I have my ReplayFX tickets and a hotel room.... all I need now are the pinburgh entries! I will go regardless but I am hopeful that being among the first 60 on the wait list will get me into the tournament.

I think the last update was just the normal wait list position update. There are still a number of people on the wait list that are also on the player list, so you are probably a few position's higher on the wait list.

    Quoted from ninjadoug:

Last time I spoke with Mark about a week ago he said the list had been updated. I don't really keep an eye on it, as I'm not part of the ticketing process, but what makes you think it isn't up to date? Has it not changed?

It has been a couple weeks since the wait list was last updated. I'm not sure if there just hasn't been any movement from cancellations or not. There are a good number of people on the wait list that are already on the player list, so it would be nice to the two lists reconciled to allow a better sense on the true status of the wait list. Also, the player list is only up to 837 players, so it seems a few positions need to be filled yet.

Tomorrow is the last day to get a refund for Pinburgh tickets, so anyone that can't make it will probably apply for a refund, so hopefully we'll get a waitlist and player list update soon.

    #285 6 years ago
    Quoted from tmontana:

    For 75% refund.
Here's the timeline for refunds and amounts:
    75%: Sales Open – March 31
    50%: April 1 – May 31
    25%: June 1 – July 14

Thanks for the clarification, I intended to write that it was the last day for the first tier of refunds.

Looks like the waitlist was updated again.

The wait list has been updated again, moving six spots I think.

More frequent wait list updates would be great. There are a lot of people on the outside hoping to get a spot.

Looks like the wait list was just updated again.

    #586 5 years ago
    Quoted from bgwilly31:

I have been watching the wait list. And i dont think its even moved a spot in 3 months. Im pretty sure im the same number from when i initially got on the waitlist.
Which leads me to believe they arent updating it. And if the tournament is free to sign up for. And no obligation to cancel. Then id imagine a lot of people who just show up actually get in.
Think about it. Theres plenty of people who just signed up as just in case. And knew it was a long shot they were ever going to make the trip. Thats why i asked if you had to prepay for your spot on the list then that would be different. But if its free to hold a spot. Then i can see a lot of the people not showing. Thus a lot of walk ins making it in the tournament.

Maybe you forgot your initial number, but the wait list has moved probably about 40 spots since it started and now they have a date for the last update (latest is July 17).

I think we can all agree that the one dollar fee has ruined competitive pinball.

    #790 5 years ago
    Quoted from ifpapinball:

They sure do add up![quoted image]

Out of curiosity, where did the ten cents come from? I'd figure the gross would be a whole number.

    #794 5 years ago
    Quoted from ifpapinball:

At first I wondered the same thing, but it’s totally the currency translation from all the CAD payments. The Provinces all pay CAD$1 per player.

Well, that doesn't help with any conspiracy theories.
