Quoted from PW79:Remember when 2pac was with Digital Underground?
Upvoted just for that reference alone!
Quoted from boogies:with the most popular 80's rappers (Dr. Dre) that is producing and still out there is perfect.
Dr Dre was not even close to being a popular rapper of the 80s, barely fits being called a "rapper" to be honest. Not his forte. EDIT:Back then anyway.
Great! Good interviews and I was nodding my head agreeing with the commentary throughout the video. Like a lot of others said - the F words in the music and towards Lucas were not really necessary.
Quoted from TheLaw:Dr Dre was not even close to being a popular rapper of the 80s, barely fits being called a "rapper" to be honest. Not his forte.
WORD! Besides Snoop and him, who else is still making rap beats since the 80's? It's even hard to say Snoop when he did something with Katy Perry. Like previously stated, they are studio gangsters, in it to make the music (money) of the current times.
Seriously, I'm still wondering if there is someone else that was old -n- new mixed together similar in a rock essence? That would probably fit the pinball scene better.
If he might edit the vid, lets put together positive ideas
Entertaining to watch -- most pinheads curse while playing so that part is authentic.
But if you're gonna use "Pinball 101" clips please spell it correctly in the credits (not "Pinbal 101".)
I read all the comments before I watched. I was fully prepared to agree that a profane rap song would not be a good fit for a pinball documentary. Turns out it's Forgot About Dre and I love that song. It's Dre telling all his haters to go F themselves. Kind of ironic as he addresses most of the very criticisms he's receiving in this thread in that song. Great song.
thank you for sharing this tasteful peace of video!
+ excellent cam direction
+ extravagant animated crossfades with pinball themes
+ figure out the social part of playing pinball in the past/present
+ lights up the reasons of the pinball downfall at the end of 20th century
+ shots/interview with newcomer JJP
Waiting to have a full half hour free to sit down in the basement and enjoy with a good beer... You guys made me too curious about the rap song though I had to check it out.
It's from the Chronic 2001 album which I love, and I love this track.
It's about a guy who everybody thought was down and out but is still there as strong as ever so that makes it relevant.
If I'm not mistaken it's some remix with 8bit style music in the background which makes it even more relevant.
...but I find it hard to believe they didn't find another relevant song where you weren't told to blow the guy if you don't like the song.
I thought the film not only (1) told a great story of the resurgence of pinball in NYC, but also (2) glorified the bar experience - drinking, smoking, swearing.
Personally, I can do without point 2 (keep it in the bar maybe?), but maybe I'm weird.
I think it was great to show location play, at the bars, instead of collections in basements. If pinball is to have a future, it's on location. If it's hipsters drinking craft beers leading the charge, then bring it on!
LOL I'm in the documentary and I didn't even know it.
I literally laughed out loud in my office at the "FU George Lucas"

It's location pinball in NY. That's what it looks like. I was in NY last month for business, I played in one of those bars from the film, it was totally accurate. So no, it wasn't "glorifying" anything, it was documenting what is true.
Quoted from Aurich:I played in one of those bars from the film
Curious.. which one? These are the locations I recall seeing in the video:
Satellite Lounge
Reciprocal Skateboards
Commonwealth
Skylark
Fifth Estate
Commonwealth is my home bar for the PinballNYC league (Cyclone!). Satellite Lounge is now closed but soon to reopen as JackBar (Jon/bigehrl's new venture).
Well done piece, I'm thinking NYC and maybe Seattle are the only places that currently have this much of a pin/pub scene going on.

I think it was Two Bits Retro Arcade. It's the one with the 2 P2Ks in the back, and Funhouse and Addams across from them, but when I was there Addams was gone and it was a Metallica LE. Also a TOM, I played that.
Was out at dinner with coworkers and I hit up the pinball map app and dragged them around the corner afterwards.
Loved it! I got to hang out with John and Steven on New Year's eve when I was in town visiting my brother. Super cool vibe. My brother hit on all of John's female friends. We played till 7am. Then I slept in till 3pm. Then I got a pizza and watched a Twilight Zone marathon.

Ah. I didn't realize Two Bits was also in the video. Been spending a lot of time there lately practicing for our match tomorrow night. Great line up, but I wish the games were better maintained.
Careful. Looks like that documentary has one of Jersey Jack's daughters in it. It might need to be taken down to keep us safe.
This was pretty sweet - thanks for sharing and it makes me want to travel and play more. I don't mind the cussing etc, since I'm a grown up and I think that however Matt wants to cut it is up to him as the creator of this film.

Add Vancouver to that list...
Thanks.. I enjoyed it very much.
Seeing the Playland pictures brought back some memories for me. As i kid growing up in Brooklyn..Coney Island was the Mecca of all pinball at one time..the MECCA!
I live in NY but shamefully I have never been to any of these pubs but I am definite going to pay Reciprocal Skates a visit one of these days.
I thought it was great! Very boozy! And hip-looking, nice direction. The music isn't what I'd put there but it didn't take away from it for me. John E made a very intriguing point about how awhile back a lot of us played to sort of escape people....now we play to meet people! I'd never looked at it that way. Also call me crazy but I think some of those shots were at Pins and Needles...just the crappy Future Spa and the Mystic. I appreciate him not calling me out in the credits for that!
Man there are so many nice pinball folks in NYC; I can't wait to get back over there.
Too bad that they filmed it a little too soon. Next ,month Steve Epstein is opening a pinball spot at 362 third Ave between twenty sixth and twenty seventh streets that should soon become the hub of NYC's pinball scene. The games being prepared for this place will be the cleanest and nicest examples of location pinballs that you will find, and along with proper promotions, publicity, their proper maintenance, and it's connections, this place should become NYC's pinball mecca. TOM, TZ,TAF,TSPP, MB, TDK,FH,all so far have been or are in the hands of the great Ed Cramer who has taken each games apart, cleaned, adjusted, aligned every single part on the game and has added LED's to ensure their proper and optimal play. Anyone that knows Ed or his work will confirm that he has no equal. More games(including a nice Cactus Canyon) are being readied for the trip to Ed's and some of the newer ones will be readied by me or one of my friends.
Stay tuned, the games are about to begin, and Pinball should benefit by the growing NYC pinball scene and Steve Epstein's involvement. The action should be fierce, and everyone will really enjoy's newest addition.

Was great to see you in it too - kinda nice to put faces and personalities to the folks on here
Even though the rap music was out of place - give credit where it's due - the rest of the music underneath the film was awesome. They did some really nice remixes of real pinball music and I definitely also heard some Sonic Spinball in there!
Nice video!

I liked the video. I did not like the swearing in the music. I am known to use f-bombs, this video could use less of it. That's just my opinion. Really good content, edited really good too.
Quoted from Allibaster:Makes me want to start up a pinball bar. Probably couldn't do that in Wyoming.
Oh, I think we should do this. Anything with alcohol is bound to do OK around here.
