I have a bunch of wire from a parted out Bally Aladdin's Castle and a Stern Pinball EM (both made after the transition to plastic-coated wire). Would there be any major concerns/issues if I were to repurpose parts of those harness in making a new Stern Nine Ball or Dragonfist harness from scratch? Emphasis on only using parts as I have ample wire from other SS games, so it would just be to fill in gaps or pull colors I may not have otherwise. The gauge seems a bit thicker on the EM harness. Is there harm in a lower gauge wire going to switches? Is there a greater fundamental difference in the type of wire used in EM vs SS pins?

I'm not even sure that I NEED to use any of this EM wire, so ultimately I'm asking if I should even bother hanging on to it.

Nothing should harmed popping in a solid state.

The main thing to worry about is the size of the conductor itself. You can go with larger sized wire in place of smaller wire, but not the other way around. In other words, you can use 18 gauge wire in place of 20 gauge wire. The lower the AWG number, the larger the conductor, which means the more amps it can carry.

I would not be concerned about one over the other, but I would not use smaller gauge wire than what was used originally. My thought process on this is yes, it would probably work, but the engineers were told to make the harnesses as cheaply as possible. Larger gauge wire costs more than smaller gauge wire, so they were probably at the margin of usefulness for the size wire used.

Sweet, that’s what I was hoping to hear. The EM wire seems like it’s heartier even at the same actual gauge so I wasn’t sure if the materials or voltage ratings would be different or a problem. I also know near-nothing about electrical systems so I was just making guesses.
