I was at CP pinball last night, and was talking with a guy who said one the of simplest and best things you can do in terms of preventative maintenance for an older machine is replace the capacitors on the power supply board. the idea was that nice, clear power to the rest of the boards would help prevent issues to other boards. my knowledge of how electronics work is limited, but I have heard of bad/leaky capacitors causing all sort of issues. i recently got a nice hakko desoldering gun from a friend and would be able to do this fairly easily. wanted to check if i would even be worth it if nothing is wrong (yet). right now i've got some system 11s (HS, pinbot, ES) and a TZ. i also wanted to check if i would need to discharge the capacitors, which i've heard you need to do in order to remove large capacitors safely.
