I've got a couple different Stern games (SPP, WPT) that had shooter rods that didn't play smooth. The shooter rods end up worn, and the action is terrible. Skill shots are annoying. I've seen this on quite as few other Stern games, too.

I replaced oilite bushings that are inserted into the shooter housing (apparently #280-5010-00 at Marco). I can get them in with a hammer or a press, but they seem to deform so that the rod can't get back into the housing all.

What's the trick to replacing these without deforming them?

Has anyone tried replacing the bearing with a Williams shooter sleeve?
