What does it take to add a shooter rod to a game that only has a launch button?
Not wanting to discuss "Why?" just want to see how it can be done.
Looking for success stories of people who made the swap.

Here's one example where both the launch button and shooter rod coexist.

I had an empty cabinet from TOM that I had to convert to AFM. The shooter rod hole was more triangular whereas my button on AFM was a circle.

I filled in the shooter housing hole with fiberglass and then drilled a hole. I'm sure you could do the reverse, but you're going to have to get someone to measure the hole shape and size for that shooter housing hole. You're also going to run the risk of damaging the art on the front but should be possible if you're careful

I think it could be done but you're probably going to have to retrofit the Stern style of coil shooter to fit around the shooter rod. Most plungerless games lack physical locks.
