I would think if you aren't really worried so much about cosmetics, you could probably use a clear 2 part epoxy to repair and build up the back to prevent further breakout. I have not done this, just my thoughts. See what others advise.

I've used the weld-on, and it works well, just takes some time to learn the correct way to do it.
