I've seen these specific problem areas on other Indiana Jones playfields restored, I am trying to figure out how they were fixed. HSA shows good before/afters but it doesn't say how they fixed them.

What method do I use to remove this ground-in grime on this unpainted wood area? Or are these spots usually painted?

For repairing the chipped wood in this photo below, I have some Bondo Wood Filler. Is this what is used for playfield wood chipping, or do I need to use a stronger epoxy such as fiberglass resin? For those that play IJ, they know these arrowed spots take a beating, and I'm not sure if Bondo Wood Filler would hold up?
