I've pulled my hair out on this a number of times over the past 18 months, and getting a little balder today. It seems like something as simple as this is not. I want a driver & a truck to haul a load 1500 miles. 4 guys on my end helping to load & unload, you provide the blankets, secure it and drive. Seems easy.
But yet I received quotes from $3000 to $16,000. $3000 guy disappeared. I tried UShip which was a joke, I got one bid for $2350, but it allocated 1/4th of a truck for all my stuff. I need a full truck. One company bid 7 times, all between $6400 and $6900 when I said my cap was $5000. The problems I've run in to are estimates. I'm given quotes which have unrealistic time (3 or 6 hours) to load a truck, after that it's $50 an hour. I need to be able to book flights and rely on someone to show up and do the work. I'm about to resign myself to rent trucks and do it myself, probably about the same cost as I want to pay a trucker, but in my own control. Time I can't afford off to drive, but gotta be done.
FYI, two years ago NAVL was $4800, but that was 3 hours on each end, with billable $85 an hour after. I think this is a 1.5 day job, that would make it being $6400ish. Too much.
Saying all that, who has had luck in this type of venture?
