I have a Mara hari BG I need to remove the metal trim along the bottom edge. The BG is mint except for the trim. It has to go but im scared of breaking something. Any tips to help me along the way would be appreciated.

The best way to do it is John's method, it works great, I have done 2 so far this way.

Safer yet is to simply put the glass between two objects that will
revent it from falling over, some padding for the bottom, then hang the
glass upside down BY the lift rail and over time it will slide off, and
the glass will drop to the padding below. 1" more than enough of a drop,
and the glass moves slowly enough that there virtually is no risk of
breakage as long as the padding is safe - 2" foam rubber, or heavy
cardboard should be fine.
NEVER attempt to pry it off, this will pull paint or chip/break the glass.
The rail is held to the glass by black friction tape - unless someone
later glued it - and this is why you can simply suspend it upside down
and the weight of the glass tape will gradually slide it out of the
metal rail.
You can wrap the glass in a blanket and suspend it between two chairs
using 2 X 4's to hold the lift rail, clamping the 2 X 4s to the chairs
with heavy spring clips. As the glass is only going to go down 1/2 to 1"
you can even design the 2 X 4s so they support the top (actually bottom)
of the glass once it separates from the metal lift.
You do need to protect it from stray animals/humans from bumping into it
during this process.
I have done this a number of times in our shop, sometimes it only takes
a few minutes, other times hours, but no glass has been damaged if you
figure out the supports correctly.
I will uTube the next time I do it!

I nailed 2 pieces of 1x6 to the legs of my workbench allowing 3/4" for the drop to the padding and used a backbox on the floor to catch the glass to keep it from falling over.
One glass took about 2 hours, the other one was overnight.

Here is what I did: Lay the glass on a towel on a flat surface. Place another towel on the top of the glass and place a 2 x 4 on the trim. Gently and I mean gently and slowly tap the trim down with a hammer and it will loosen up and come off. The key is to go slow.

Did it work? I'am going to be getting a new HS backglass when they come out so I need some info on how to do this. Or is there a vendor that sells the trim and lift channel for the System 11 type BG's? Thanks.

As Tracelifter said, John's method really works

The whole suspending it thing is scary though.

I tried it but it didn't work. I even set a camera up to film the whole thing but nothing happened. I set up saw horses in my shop. Set two 8ft 2x4's side by side about 3/4 inches apart. I clamped everything down tight so it wouldn't move. Hung the bg upside down so it was hanging by the bottom lift trim I wanted removed. I set two 5 gallon buckets on both sides of the glass so it wouldn't fall over, them put padding and blankets down everywhere. Turned the camera on to film it and waited. I waited for 7 days and the thing never moved at all. Good idea but I guess it doesn't always work. Never did get it off.

I had to use a razor blade to cut into the black tape on my Meteor. Cut between the trim and the tape. Be careful not to touch the backglass itself. Go slow.
