Sorry if this is a dumb question, but if you remove the batteries to change them, do you lose the high score even if you do it quickly?

    #2 4 years ago

yes, unless you change them with the power on.

    This is %100 correct.

Yeah if you change them with the game on everything will be the same. If you change them with the game off you will lose high scores and any changed settings. Freeplay extra balls etc. Will have to be set again. Unless you go with factory settings.

ah.. ok, sorry for such a remedial question, I've never owned a pin before so I'm trying to figure this out. So the nvram, while a nice addon, isn't necessary if you just do a remote battery holder which is what I'm doing. I don't mind changing batteries every year

I wouldn't use NVRAM on your machine for a couple of reasons
    1) the RAM is soldered onto the CPU board making it difficult to install, and even if it wasn't ....
    2) the machine date/time will stop counting when the machine is off, so it will never be right. (I would use it if not for these 2 things)
    3) I use lithium batteries (without a remote holder) and I don't really worry too much about them. I measure mine once a year and plan to replace them (with the power on) when they read under 4V DC, or 5 years has gone by.

Sometimes it depends on the RAM. I have been surprised by a 5101 RAM that retained memory after being power free for a few min or so. Usually tho it will clear immediately. If you want to retain audits in a battery change, do it with the power on. CAREFULLY
