I just stumbled across this thread and am now employing this method with success on a Gottlieb Genie with peeling clear
In my case, the clearcoat was cracked around many of the inserts. They needed to be reset and I was unsure about what course of action to take with a couple of layers of clear to try and build back up to.
After I read your post I tried the tape and that’s going to give me the best result. I’ll remove the clear and start at level 1.
